On a clean clone of zotonic master, the Admin page comes up empty. Am keen
to play with the new bootstrap stuff ... is it straight forward to get
master working? Or should I be patient and wait for a release?

I didn't try a clean install yet :)

We are working with the master, in fact we are almost releasing a site with it.
Maybe you can enable the mod_base_site on the command line?

        z_module_manager:activate(mod_base_site, z:c(yoursitename)).

PS. I noticed that admin password send by GET. Is this safe?

I dont really think the admin password is sent using GET. Rather, it
uses POST to the /postback URL.

How did you come to this conclusion?

When you see "/postback" in your url then something went wrong with the post back to the server.
Most often it is a javascript error.

Do you have javascript enabled?
Do you see any javascript errors in the console?

What version of Erlang are you running?
I think filename:extension/1 accepting binaries was added in kernel 2.14.2 (R14B02)

We should add a warning that we need R14B03 to run.
(stay clear from R14B02m, see https://github.com/zotonic/zotonic/issues/245)

Especially as we are moving forward with new NIFs, binary module use and unicode.

There is quite a bit changed since then :-)

The pictures is probably an ImageMagick problem.
Make sure that you have a relatively new version (say max 2 years old).
Some Linux installs come with ancient versions from around the previous ice age.

Amen. You may be running a version that works fine, apart from not
supporting the --layers flatten option. In which case you might want to
comment that out.

Zotonic seems to start ok now, but there are still problems with the rpc.
Good to see that 'zotonic status' also errors, so it's not related to the
erl_call command per se
