Hi,
I just realized that Zotero Standalone does not seem to update add-ons
automatically. Is that correct? Anything that can be done about that?
I would be nice if Standalone would update the same way Z FF does.
Otherwise Standalone users have to watch the forum or mozilla site for
add-on updates and do that manually.

Extension auto-update was off by default, although it should still
work if you enable it (under the cog in Tools-Add-ons). It will be on
by default in the next release.

Also note that your update.rdf needs to have a section for
zot...@chnm.gmu.edu, just like install.rdf. If your add-on is hosted
on addons.mozilla.org, I'm not sure if auto-update in Standalone will
work at all. If it doesn't, I can try to tweak it to get it working,
but I can't make any promises.

Hi, I think the auto-update feature does not work. At least the manual
'check for updates' didn't do anything in my case. It would be pretty
helpful if this does work considering that many are using existing add-
on and that more zotero add-ons might be developed...

But maybe the reason is that I don't have an update.rdf file (I just
checked and ZoteroQuickLook does not either). It was never a problem
with the FF updates. I thought they are only necessary if I want to
update through my own URL and not through mozilla!? I do have the
zotero part in my install.rdf though (see below). If you want to test
addon updating, here is an old zotfile version that should update to
the current 2.0: http://www.columbia.edu/~jpl2136/zotfile_200b7.xpi

If you specify an updateURL in install.rdf, Zotero Standalone will use
it to update. Zotero Standalone is also happy to ping
addons.mozilla.org to look for version information. However,
addons.mozilla.org refuses to serve update information to Zotero
Standalone. We'll try to hack Standalone to pretend to be Firefox to
addons.mozilla.org for the next update.

okay, thanks. It would be good to get an update here about the hack.
If it does not work, I will look into providing an updateURL.

Thanks,
Joscha

Auto-update from AMO should work in 3.0.2.
