Game Day At Chez O'Whielacronx is on the first *Saturday* from now on, rather than the first Sunday. The first Saturday of April is the 7th.
So don't come over to our house on the first Sunday! That's the 1st, and we're hosting a Tahoe-LAFS ą Hack Fest ˛, perhaps to be held at our local Hacker Space ł.

(1) We need to start a little later than usual -- 4 pm.
(2) In addition to the usual request of no gluten*, please bring no candy, dessert, fruits*, baked goods, or chips. We will provide various meats, meat-like concoctions made miraculously from vegetables, veggie and meat shish kabobs (provided we can fix our busted grill), vegetables, and meats.

Religious wars are so tiresome. Food wars seem little different - can't we just eat and let eat? On Apr 6, 2012 8:28 PM, "Tom Christiansen" <tchr...@perl.com> wrote:

My repeated, explicit mention of the inclusion of a whole class of foods that I cannot eat, but am willing to cook and serve, was intended to signal my willingness to bend over backwards for any particular individual whose weird diet has close to zero overlap with my own weird diet, as a kind of peace-offering in light of having to impose some constraints that are necessary for certain others.
I'm sorry the message got so mangled. Let me say it more plainly: vegetarian food will be welcome and even provided.

I am really not trying to dictate what you eat. It's about my children. It is complicated and painful, but I'm willing discuss it in face-to-face conversation, more than email.
Note that the plan we made (Amber sent the letter, above) should provide plenty of sustenance for people who eat no meat! Although if you are a candytarian, you might go hungry...

Aw, if I make a tasty salad of greens from my garden, will you come anyway? Let me know...
I think they're just trying to keep their kiddos from temptation. I'm sure they would have no problems with their non-preferred foods being present if it were just adults. But having to monitor and say no again and again to very young kids like Graeme gets really tiresome to the parents.
All that said, I think a good compromise might be to allow guests to bring these things for their own personal consumption but not share them with the kids? Ada understands that she can't eat all the foods that other folks eat because of her allergies, so kids can get used to being around foods they can't eat. Including cup cakes and other treats (this has happened many times with Ada). Maybe when Graeme gets older....
But, it's not my house and I can easily do without those foods for one evening a month so I can see my good, good friends and let them be able to concentrate on gaming and socializing rather than monitoring their kids' diets. :)
See you later today!

No, apparently that's against their new religion.
Good bye.

That's what we normally do, with varying levels of success. We just need it out of the picture this time. It's complicated, and there is a different issue for each child. I can explain more in person. I'm truly sorry to inconvenience anyone.

The First-Saturday-of-the-Month Game Day of May is nearly upon us.
The same special requests regarding timing and foods apply as last
month (see below). I'm happy to report that the grill is now
functional!
See you then.
