Zipeg to resolve 7zip

Hello,
I recently installed 7zip in hopes that I could easily open troublesome compressed files. Instead I found I can only "Add", "Extract", "Copy", "Move", etc. with it. So in order to actually open the files I am needing I believe, from what I think I understand, that I need a freeware version of bitzipper or windows zip. I find no point in wasting money on actually buying the program(s) because I do not regularly use them. And the free trials aren't really a option.
Now then, I tried downloading Zipeg to my computer (Windows 7 O.S.) wiht mozilla and at first it failed. I tried again and it worked. However, when I tried to open and activate the program it simply gave me an error that said "Could not create the Java Virtual Machine."
I hate to be a bother, but I could use some help from here-on and out.

I hope this release candidate might work:
give it a try and let me know if it fixes the problem.
