Zetia
Zetia reduces the amount of cholesterol or other sterols that your body absorbs from your diet. Zetia is used to treat high cholesterol, along with a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet. It is sometimes given with other Zetia cholesterol-lowering medications. It is also used to treat high blood sitosterol and campesterol along with diet therapy. Zetia may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Some cholesterol Zetia medications should not be taken at the same time. Do not take Zetia with cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran), colestipol (Colestid), or colesevelam (Welchol). Wait at least 4 hours after taking any these Zetia medicines before you take Zetia. You may also take Zetia 2 hours before taking any of these other medicines. Zetia may be taken at the same time with fenofibrate (Antara, Lipofen, Lofibra, TriCor, Triglide), or with any of the "statin" drugs such as lovastatin (Mevacor), simvastatin (Zocor), pravastatin (Pravachol), fluvastatin (Lescol), atorvastatin (Lipitor), or cerivastatin (Baycol). Follow your Zetia diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely.It may take several weeks of using this medicine before your symptoms improve. For best results, keep Zetia using the medication as directed. Do not stop taking Zetia without first talking to your doctor. If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Zetia. FDA pregnancy Zetia category C. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your Zetia doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether Zetia passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor Zetia if you are breast-feeding a baby. Older adults may be more likely to have side effects from this medicine. Some cholesterol medications should Zetia not be taken at the same time. Do not take Zetia with cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran), colestipol (Colestid), or colesevelam (Welchol). Do not stop taking Zetia without first talking to your doctor. Store Zetia at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Zetia is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. Follow your Zetia diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely. Take the missed dose as soon as you Zetia remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next Zetia regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to Zetia make up the missed dose.
