Salaam,

I'm happy to announce general availability of Zekr 1.1.0 (final) just before Ramadan 1433.

This release is deeply devoted to the Muslims of Rohingya, Myanmar, world’s most prosecuted people who are expelled, killed and oppressed as a daily routine in their own country. Please pray for them in this holy month of Ramadan.

This version of Zekr is similar to 1.1.0m1 in features, plus a few bug fixes. Main highlights of this release (same as 1.1.0m1) are:
  1. Listening to multiple (two or more) recitations, aya by aya, is possible.
  2. It is possible now to dock recitation player on: bottom, top, task pane and even have it float.
  3. Show translation under search results.
  4. Native support for media keys on Windows (play, pause, next/previous track, etc.).
  5. Zekr is now shown on the system tray icon.

As of this version, for first time we have a portable Linux version containing Java (JRE 1.7.0.5) and Mozilla browser (XULRunner 10.0.4), which should work seamlessly on any recent Linux distribution. Windows portable version was already available for a few years.

Happy Ramadan; please consider us in your prays.

Regards,
Mohsen

Salaamun Alaikum,

I've just uploaded a new x64 for Mac. The previous package had a bug in executable file (it was 32 bit). Please try again.

Thanks,
Mohsen

Dear brother Mohsen,

Ramadan Kareem!!!!

Many thanks for a new release. Unfortunately, the problem with Zekr x64
for Mac has not been resolved--it does not launch on Mac 10.7.4 at all.
Please, fix the bug.

Yours,
Michael.

I can confirm that Zekr x64 for mac works now. 32 bit version does not start and I suspect permissions or extended attributes as the cause of this problem.

32-bit version is fine, the problem was with my Mac.

For those interested:
Mac OS X gives "com.apple.quarantine" attribute to apps downloaded from the internet. When you open that app for the first time it will show a warning like this:
" “Zekr” is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it? "
If you click the Open button it will remove the quarantine attribute and open the app. For some unknown reason the warning window would not appear on my mac so the 32-bit version of Zekr still had the quarantine attribute and would not launch. I restarted my Mac, it displayed the warning window and it works now.

Salaam,

1. Close Zekr
2. Change "text.filter.noSpaceBeforeWaqf" in your workspace/config/confi.properties from false to true or true to false.
3. Start Zekr and do a reload (View > Reload)
4. If problem doesn't resolved download and install KFGQPC Uthman Taha Naskh font from here.
5. Reload Zekr.

Tell me the result please.

Brother Mohsen,

Assalamu Alaikum. I've prepared and mailed you the Bengali language pack for Zekr at 05 April 2012. I had a confident that you would add it in the new version. But it has not added. If you kindly add that it will be mostly helpful for those Bengali speaking persons who are weak in English.

Ma'assalam

Salaamun Alaikum.

It's already added to 1.1.0m1 and 1.1.0 versions. Since attributes name and localizedName are misplaced in the XML file, the sorting is wrong in language package combo box in Options form. You can find at the end of languages combo box just before Chinese.

Assalamu Alaikum.

I've forgotten to mention previously that I was intended to request you to add multiple recitation system in the Zekr- but you have added it before sending request. It pleased me!  Other newly added features are also fine. MashAllah, you have a nice creativity gifted by Allah Subhanu Ta'ala. May Allah bless you and help you for here and hereafter. Ameen.

Ma'asslam.

Dawud,
Did you receive a warning that this app is not from an identified developer?

Gatekeeper feature of OS X 10.8 restricts launch of downloaded applications to those download from Mac App Store or identified developers(with Apple Developer ID).

There are three ways to bypass this behavior:

1) Right click on Zekr app and select "Open" from the contextual menu.
It will show a warning that Zekr is downloaded from internet, click the "Open" button.
If you have Java installed Zekr will launch and you do not need to repeat these instructions for the next launch of Zekr.
If Java is not installed you will be guided to download and install it.

2) You can change Gatekeepers settings to allow any downloaded application:

Open "System Preferences", click "Security & Privacy",in the General tab click the lock at the bottom of the window, enter your password, choose "Anywhere" for "Allow applications downloaded from:".

3) Although aforementioned solutions work and are easier than this one, you can also use terminal:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine Zekr.app

---

Mohsen,
I may renew my Mac Developer Program account in the near future, then I will be able to digitally sign the Zekr.app so none of the above instructions would be necessary.

Alhamdulillah, an updated version of Zekr is now available. I have prepared a new translation, The Al-Jalalayn Commentary in Indonesian Language (Bahasa Indonesia). I have compressed that file, named id.jalalain.trans.zip (which I have attached here). That translation just need signature.

Also, the Indonesian translation of the Quran (id.indonesian.trans.zip). At the "localized name" and "name" written "unknown", when it should be :

localizedName=Al-Qur'an dan Terjemahnya - Departemen Agama RI
name=Al-Quran and Translation - Ministry of Religious Affairs RI

Yes. Followed that sequence, and the problem still persists. A couple of things to note-
1. I did not have this issue with the older version of Zekr. Issue cropped up only after upgrading
2. When font is set to 'Sans-serif', it renders correctly. Issue is seen when font is set to KFGQPC Uthman Taha Naskh or Traditional Arabic

Salaam,

I had the same issue on my computer with KFGQPC font, and that was due to several installation of different versions of fonts. As I deleted all files and installed the latest version, font issue resolved. Note that Zekr installer copies the font into Windows font folder, which seems to cause this problem, as copying is not same as installing. Are you sure you first removed all fonts according to these instructions? Sometimes, in my case at least, a reboot is also required.

Mohsen

Yes, I deleted uth* from windows/fonts as Administrator. Then followed instructions at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Install-or-uninstall-fonts to install "UthmanTN1B Ver10.otf" and "UthmanTN1 Ver10.otf". Restarted PC. But the problem still persists.

Salaam,

Mahmood,
Try using XULRunner instead of IE and tell us about the result.
2. Unzip it somewhere, say e:\xulrunner
3. Edit <zekr installation folder>\zekr.ini
4. add the following line at the end of the file:
vmarg.3=-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath=e:\xulrunner
5. Start Zekr.

It should now use XULRunner as the underlying browser instead of IE. Check if the font issue still persists with this browser.
