EXSA HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR EXHIBITIONISTS

With the global exhibition industry accounting for increasing portions
of
marketing budgets, the Exhibition Association of South Africa (EXSA) is
hosting its first international conference to provide business leaders,
marketers, advertising agencies, PR professionals and exhibitors with
valuable insight into the latest global exhibition thinking and trends.

The two-day conference will be held at Expo Centre, NASREC, on 11 and 12

March 1999. It coincides with Exposhop 99, the first expo of
exhibitions,
signage and shopfitting, which will run from 11 - 14 March 1999 at the
same
venue.

Speakers will include local and international industry leaders who will
address different aspects of the industry. These will include Roland
van
Kampen, Director of Strategy and Communications of Rai Group
(Netherlands),
Norman Blem, MD of Groupco Training International, Pierre Wolmarans,
Principal Legal Services at Pricewaterhouse Coopers; John Immelman, MD
of
Endress and Hauser; David Graham, MD of International Trade Projects to
mention a few.

The conference will be divided into two tracks. Track one will cover
topics of interest to the marketing discipline: integrated marketing
and
the role of exhibitions, penetrating export markets through
exhibitions,
the role of PR and ad agencies, and selecting a show to name a few.
Track two focuses more on the practical side of exhibitions with topics
covering safety and security as it pertains to exhibitions,
certification
of the industry, professionalising the industry, probing the future of
the
exhibition industry and labour issues.

Other topics will include the internet and its impact on the exhibition
industry, exhibition planning and preparation, selling at exhibitions
and
customer service.

Bernie van Grevenbroek, general manager of EXSA, says : "On a global
level, exhibitions are experiencing tremendous growth and acceptance as
a
highly effective, cost-effective marketing medium. It is gaining
recognition for its marketing functionality, especially since very few
other tools enable marketers the ideal way to launch new products,
introduce products to new customers, get sales leads, see what your
competitors are up to, interact with existing and potential customers,
open
communication channels between top management and customers and much
more.

The EXSA Conference aims to highlight exhibitions as a medium of today
and
the future and provide insight into the latest trends and issues."
