OPEN DAY

art collection will be on view from 10h00 to 16h00.

VIEW ART FROM THE SASOL ART COLLECTION

Sasol's involvement in arts and culture has an interesting history,
beginning in Sasolburg shortly after Sasol was founded. Small informal
art exhibitions and concerts were held in the local theatre erected by
Sasol for the benefit of the community. Thus the community's interest
in arts and culture grew and its members became increasingly involved.

Over the years Sasol has broadened its scope, becoming one of the
country's most enthusiastic patrons of the arts. Not only supporting
painting and sculpture, but also contributing to the performing arts,
notably orchestral and choral music, dance and theatre.

Because of its importance in unearthing talented artists, Sasol is
particularly proud to sponsor the prestigious Sasol New Signatures
Competition. Held annually for those who have never held a solo
exhibition, it offers artists from around the country a platform to
exhibit their work for the first time. This significant event has grown
over the years and is regarded as one of the most important art
competitions in the country.

Some pieces from this competition grace Sasol's art collection, which
comprises about 1 400 works of art and is one of the largest collections
of contemporary South African art. The collection came into being in
1983 and has been exhibited to the public on various occasions, such as
this year's Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees in Oudtshoorn and the
Aardklop festival in Potchefstroom.

This unique collection of works of art was initiated by the late Joe
Stegmann, former managing director and chairman of Sasol. All media are
included in the collection. The objective of the acquisition of works
of art is not only to decorate Sasol's offices, but also to support
young artists by affording them an opportunity to display their work.

It is outstanding pieces from this collection that are to be exhibited
at Sasol's offices in Sturdee Avenue. If you would like to view them,
contact Desdemona Miakista at (011) 441 3338.
