Unable to save project message

I've been a yWriter user for several years so on occasion I've seen
the 'unable to save project message, retry or specify another
location' (or whatever the exact text of the message is) when I
terminate yWriter. However, this seems to be happening with increasing
regularity recently. So far, I've just specified 'retry' and there
have been no issues. My only concern is that this may be symptomatic
of some under-lying problem.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone have an explanation? I'm
running windows 7 and yWriter 5.1.9.1.

My hope is that my concern is for naught.

Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide.

Hi Dick,

I've seen that message a few times as well.  Usually, it crops up when trying to save, backup or close yWriter while another program is attempting to synchronise the yWriter files to an external drive.

It's not a fault within yWriter.  The program can't shut down properly while another program is working on it.

It's the sort of error I'd expect to see if the project is running from a Dropbox (or similar) folder. (Something I strongly discourage, as you know from many posts on the subject.)

Alternatively, running from slow external storage (e.g. plugged into a USB1 connection), or a network drive.

In the past it would just crash with an error. Now at least you get the chance to retry.

I've never seen this error. I normally (past 6 years plus) save to a network
drive that's set up for offline access (Properties/Offline Files/Always
available offline). Whether disconnected, local, or accessed via VPN over a
slow connection, it always works. My old machine was running XP, this one is
running Win 7. If you're getting this message frequently, you need to look at
what's interfering with your saves.

If you're saving to a network drive and have the space on your C: drive for a
local copy, setting it for offline access is something worth considering.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think I know what is causing the
message, and my fears have been put to rest. I use a product called
Jungle Disk (similar in function to DropBox) to sync and backup all my
yWriter files. I'm guessing that the backup/sync process (invoked when
I save and exit from a scene editing session) has not completed yet
when I close yWriter, thus causing yWriter to generate the message. By
the time I select 'retry' the Jungle Disk process has completed and
yWriter can go happily about its business of a normal and successful
shutdown (completing its own internal backup process).

Thanks again for your help.

Dick
