Welcome to the yWriter (novel-writing software) group, which was set up to allow users of this software to seek help, report bugs and suggest new features. yWriter was developed by Simon Haynes, the author of the bestselling, award-winning Hal Spacejock series. Simon is also a programmer with over 20 years experience developing effective, user-friendly applications.
How did yWriter come about? Back in 1999/2000 Simon was struggling to write his first novel in a word processor file, and he quickly realised there had to be a better way. yWriter was the result, and the current version is yWriter5. The software is free to use, but you're welcome to donate towards the cost of development.
Re the group, it doesn't matter if discussions go off topic from time to time, but you do need to keep it clean. Simon's books and software are widely read/used/enjoyed in schools, and that brings kids to the website and - potentially - to this group. Please respect your fellow members, and above all ... no spamming!
Important: New members are moderated, and their messages to the group are held until the admin can inspect and release them. This only happens for the first couple of messages from each new user.
If you're reporting a bug via the yWriter group, it's very helpful if you put [BUG] at the start of the subject line. You can also use other prefixes such as [TIP] , [HELP] and so on. (There's no formal list of prefixes, and they're not essential so don't avoid posting to the list just because you're not sure which you should use. If in doubt, post your message and don't use any prefix at all.)
