I never saw a story which had the sea as background, so here's one.
It's quite long, but I didn't want to cut parts out.
Oh, can someone explain to me why people usually divide their stories
in multiple posts?
Is it to make them seem longer, to divide them in sections, or what?
Do you prefer it that way, or for you it's the same?

This time there are not abusers as someone requested, but it's not a
secret that there will be some violence.
Well... just read the story if you want.
Quick note on the use of pronouns: usually I refer to yukkuris as
"she". I change to "it" if there are too repetitions or according to
other characters' viewpoint.

The magic of a yukkuri

Since before the sun had risen, another day was already starting at
Millander's Cove.
The sailors were returning home with their boats, another hard night
of work just finished, and the pub nearby the port had already opened
its windows: clients were about to come, even if just for a coffee,
before going home and get their well deserved rest.
Workers at the port were starting to go to the docks, since after the
boat were hauled they were going to lift the various fish-filled
boxes. Luckily, it was finally April: the winter was already far away,
and even if the mornings were still old, it was just a matter of time
before the sunrise.

While the seagulls were still sleeping, however, someone was already
awake and ready to burst out of her nest for another easy day of
hunting.
Coming out from a little hole in a reef, there were some noises:
"YUUUU! HAPPYNESS! Another day has started, Chen is awake! Mister sun
get it, don't take it easy! Yunyaa!"
And thus, another ordinary day of the energetic Chen started.
The reef's nearest part to the dry land was far away from the sea for
about ten meters, since the zone was used as a dumping site of the
port.

Scattered away, a lot of wood pieces and broken boxes provided a good
hide from the sight of predators, and could be used eventually as
temporary nest for the days of stormy sea, when Mister Waves weren't
easy and went to eventually destroy everything that was too near from
the sea.
Not that this was a real problem, because Chen, a full adult yukkuri,
was used to live there since about five months.
Sure, it hadn't been easy collecting a lot of food to see it taken
away after the first few times... but the fact that she managed to
survive was enough to teach her the lesson: gradually, she had learned
to predict the dangerous days, and quickly found a safer place for
those uneasy days.
The only reason she didn't transfer there was because of Mister
Seagulls: while she was the strongest, she recognized that she hadn't
a chance against a well composed swarm of big birds. But during those
days of storm they were always far away, in another nest of them.
Chen was always careful not to wake them during the first hours of the
day, she got it, Mister Seagulls were angered if woken up early, and
in this case they were used to not let the others take it easy, like
in her Mommie's case.

Every time Chen went out of her easy home, careful of not making any
sound when putting out her super easy wooden boundary, she couldn't
help but think of her Mommie's cruel death: when she was a koyukkuri
with her sisters Marisa and Marisa, they lived in a nest not so far
away, always on the beach but actually in a hole under one of the
piers.

---

Their Mommie, a super easy example of Chen, had been used to go out
before her little ones were awake to get them their easy meal;
however, when they grew up, she decided to take them with her in order
to learn about Chen's Easy Hunting Techniques.
Sadly this forced her to go out a little after the usual hour since
waking up her koyukkuris and preparing them had taken some time.
Because of this, when the whole family was out heading for the nearby
pier, the seagulls were already awake and near the pier.
Still now, Chen couldn't forget about her Mommie's expression when a
little group of seagulls, hungry because of the lack of lunch, spotted
them and went straight for her.
Chen's Mommie tried her best to outrun the voracious birds, and since
she was the fastest she could have actually succeeded. However she was
carrying her koyukkuris into her hat, and this slowed her down.

*Kyaaaa! KyaaaAAA!*

"Waaaahaaaa... uneasy seagull, go away! Chen is not tasty, Chen is not
tasty!" shouted Mommie, while bumping towards her hole as fast as she
could: "Chen has babies, can't you get it?!? Go away Mister Seagulls,
go awa-YUGHAAAA!"

Fast as a lightning, the first seagull flew down and immediately
caught Chen's left side with his open beak, ripping this way her side
and making some of her insides drop down on the ground, as well as the
ZUN hat were her babies were hidden.

""Mwhommiiieeeee!!! Mwhommiiieee!!! Yuuu!!!""screamed her babies.

"Why ish Mishter Sheagull uneajy, whyyy!!! Chen doeshn't get it,
Mishter Sheagull go away! Mishter Sheagull go away from Mwhommie!!!
*PUFFF*"

"Yuwaaaa... yuwaaa...*plish plish*.... Bawiza'sh shcareddd...
yunyaaaaa!"

"Uneajy Shegullsh will djop dead eajy! Mawiza'sh the shtrongesht!
Yuuu!" hissed the last Marisa, while coming out of the ZUN eat and
heading towards her Mommie's enemies, who had already dropped the
adult Chen on the ground and started eating.

"YuuUWHARGHAGH... Yughhghg... Ghurgh! Marisa go away MARISA GO AWAY
EAghgGhgHAAHGAG" was the last thing little Chen heard from her Mommie,
well repaired by the frills of the hat, not so far away from the
scene.

---

Quietly, Chen removed the last piece of wood pushing with her body and
then proceeded to mask the entrance a little, but in a way that she
could go back inside quickly in case of an eventual danger.
Actually this had happened just twice before, but a smart Chen always
gets it and likes to be sure.
When the last piece of wood was in the right place, Chen thought for a
little while about her sisters: the last thing she heard from the
brave Marisa who went to protect her mother with all of her might was
"Uneajy Shegullsh dwop dead eajy!!! Mawiza'sh shtronghest!
PUFFFFF!!!", but she couldn't find any rest of her after she came out
of the hat, a couple of hours later.
The other Marisa lived with her for another month, but she wasn't
exactly well suited for the place: while the fear factor wasn't that
much of a problem anymore (since they hadn't seen much besides some
rests of their Mommie, thanks to the hat's protection) and she managed
to become braver... she lacked something.

In order to live in the wild a yukkuri has to exercise its
peculiarities at its best and use them wisely: Patchoulis use their
incredible intelligence, Yukas their uncommon ability to make plants
grow, Marisas their strong body... but if we talk about a setting that
involves other factors like human activity, things change.
A yukkuri cannot rely only on what she has by nature in these cases:
she needs to have luck, ability, and the most suited nature gift for
the setting she lives in.
Marisa's strong point was her strength, which wasn't really of use
because of the presence of seagulls, humans and machinery - although
it could be of use against cats and little crabs.
Chen's strong point, on the contrary... was the speed.

---

And that was actually the most important skill at the port or the
beach: if you are unlucky and a big mister wave comes after you, you
can still escape.
If an uneasy Mister Human runs toward you while shouting something
like "Damn thieves! Stay away from my fucking fishes!", you can still
escape.
If seagulls are uneasy because it's morning and spot you, you can
still escape if you are quick enough.
If the really big Mister Machinery goes down on the port's ramp and
you are unlucky enough to be on his path... you have to be really fast
to escape.
Marisa simply wasn't fast as she should have been: one day she and
Chen were caught off guard by a pickup that was coming from the right
corner of a road inside of the port, to go down the ramp that
connected the crane with the entrance of the port itself.
Since the sight of the incoming car was covered because of a building,
the couple of soon-to-be yukkuris, there to scout and take possession
of all their territory, didn't recognize it in time.
The crane was too loud and the big Mister Machinery was making too
much noise, so they didn't catch the incoming vehicle: the moment it
arrived from beyond the corner it was already too late.

*WROOOM!*

"Yu..?" murmured the young Chen, her little cat-like ears moving a
little: "Chen doeshn-WAAA?!?! YUWAAA SHCAAAARED!!!" screamed Chen,
while at the same time jumping right behind her, out of pure instinct.

"What ish Che- WWWAAAAAAA UNEASY THING GO AWAAAYY!!!" screamed Marisa
instead.

"What the fuck?" murmured the pickup driver, surprised because he was
only expecting a boring run to go taking a colleague along the road
because his car suddenly run out of battery.

Actually both of the yukkuris recognized the vehicle nearly at the
same time and started running in the opposite direction, while the
driver immediately pressed the brakes.

While the pickup wasn't that fast and the brakes were working well, we
have to admit that it's kinda hard to stop immediately a huge mass of
various quintals on four wheels, especially if filled with full boxes.
So the vehicle kept going for some other meters.

"Dammit dammit dammit..." imprecated the driver, while turning the
steering wheel because he recognized that he was going for an
involuntary strike.

*Jump! jump! jump!*"Han...han...CHEN DOESHN'T GETCHIIIIITT!!!" the
green hat yukkuri was already distancing her sister, out of quickness.

"Yu... hanf...hanf... wait... WAAAA MARISHA DOESHN'T...han...YUWAAA
UNEAJY THNG GO AWAAAYYY!!!" screamed Marisa, while suddenly jumping on
the left, since the road was splitting in two rows.

And that was exactly the cause of her death: the pickup's left wheel
centered her like a precise shot of a rifle, only that in this case
the bullet was almost big as a church, in human comparison.

*SCREEEE-SBLAAAAARTCH!!!!* immediately, a firework of bean paste came
out of the almost stopped left wheel.

"Fuck!" said the driver, while clenching his teeth: "Why the fuck did
it went on left?!?"
The driver's plan was to turn on the left the very first moment the
road would have been larger, since on the other side there was a wall
and it was obvious that the vehicle wasn't going to stop in time.
Unluckily, a sudden change of the yukkuri's direction put it right on
the pickup's path again.

The pickup stopped and the driver came out: "Holy shit-" he exclaimed
"Shit, there's blood everywhere! Fuck!"

-

"Whoa Bill, it's everything alright?" asked a worker that was coming
from the crane platform: "Did you get asleep while driving?!"

"No.... fuck, shit!"

"Then what's- oh... dammit..." said the worker, while realising what
had just happened.

"I couldn't stop it in time, damn... oh, fuck... there's blood
everywhere, on the ground!" said the driver, while checking on the
wheel if something could still have been done.

No, it was useless. What was probably an eye felt on his hand and then
dropped on the ground, lifeless.

"Bean paste... Bill that's-"

"I KNOW IT BUT... fuck I didn't expect that there were-"

"Mh? And that one?"

The two men saw the other yukkuri lying still on the ground. It was
watching the whole scene from afar, silent.

No, maybe it was more accurate saying trembling.

"Yuu.... yuuuu? Ch-Chen... doeshn't get it...Why Marisha'sh.."

"Hey are you... alright?" tried to said the second worker, lowering
his tone the same moment he recognized that the yukkuri was crying.

"Ma...BAWIZASH WAS.... BAWIZA WASH
EAJJJYYYYYYYUUUUAAAAAAA!!! ...wwwwWWAAAHHHAAAAAA!!!" cried out loud
Chen, her innocence fading, her desperation making her become an adult
more quickly than she should have been.

Meanwhile, the worker was slowly walking towards her, in order not to
scare her. He had to check if it was alright, since he hadn't saw the
previous impact.

"WWWWAAAAAAAAHHHHAAAAA!!!! YUUUUUWAAAAA!!!-YUUU!!!!!!!!!"Exclaimed
Chen, while the really uneasy Mister Human was coming near.
Immediately the trembling stopped, and while the sadness was still
hurting like a blade, her body was ready to react.

"H-hey... yukkuri..." said the bearded man while coming closer, not
used to interact with magical manjus: "Are you alright? Were you hurt?
Let me see, so we can-"

"YUWA!!! CHEN GETS IT, CHEN GETS IT! Scary Mister stay away, Scary
Mister go away!!!" she answered, while running afar.
Chen got it well: while she couldn't obviously had seen the impact,
the moment she had stopped running because she couldn't hear other
noises, she had turned around.
Just to see two Mister Humans going for Marisa's body.
One human was crouched on the ground and was searching for pieces of
Marisa!
The other one, with his scary black beard, was directly taking one of
Marisa's eyes!!!
Mommie was right when she was telling Chen and her sisters her
stories!
Mommie was right, scary humans were super uneasy!
Needless to say, Chen started running away like a devil was right
behind her. She was pretty fast, even for an in-development koyukkuri:
the worker couldn't reach for her.

"Damn-wait! No, don't run away, we are not... well, no shit there"
said the bearded worker as he turned towards his colleague, while
raising his shoulders "I'm afraid it's too late now."

"It's all my fault... shit, I'm so sorry..."

"It's sad and kinda cynic to say it... but hey: it happens. You
couldn't know that those yukkuris were right there."

"But that one..."

"Bill: calm down and try to reason, ok? You couldn't know that. The
other one is fine and healthy, didn't you see how it was fast?"

"Bu-"

"And yes, it's going to be fine. Those things run in clans, families,
or whatsoever they are called: it will go to its mother, will be taken
care of, and will be fine. Now take the ramp and go to the pub: you
need to drink something warm. Don't worry about Joe, I'll go get him."

----

"Yu... uff... yu! Got it, Chen did it!"
Done! The hideout was super perfect now!
Chen couldn't help but refrain from shedding a little tear for her
sister. Since then she had been very careful of Mister Humans and
Mister Car, even more than the uneasy seagulls, if possible!

Actually those weren't the only dangers and paled in comparison to the
bigness of Mister Machinery... but that one was not so scary in Chen's
opinion: she was a super easy scout, so she had studied all her easy
hunting zone and knew when and where there were dangers and how to
avoid them.
Mister Sea is going to be scary when Mister Humans move the huge boats
inside the Great Gate.
Mister Seagulls are going to be uneasy when you wake them and they
attack you because you made them not take it easy. And in fact, when
you don't wake them, they leave without touching you for all the day
until evening, when they are tired and want to sleep. (Actually it's
because after lunch and until before dinner they are full... but Chen
got it, in a way or another).
Mister Machinery is going to be uneasy when it starts to make noises
and breathe bad smell, but until then it's perfectly easy and can be
used as hiding place.

It was like Mister Car, but it didn't move if not for about of couple
of times a day.
The only thing that was always scary were Mister Humans: not only they
protected the easy meal and always shouted when they spotted Chen, but
they had already proved to be really super uneasy... so she was always
careful not to go near to them.
However with a bit of attention neither them were so dangerous, since
other than Chen's lunch-lunch time, they were always busy with the
huge boats and sometimes Mister Machinery, about twice a day.

Chen immediately started scouting: she located the uneasy seagulls
with her sight, and then started slowly-slowly moving towards a broken
box.

"Slowly-slowly... slowly-slowly..."

The beach, not yet lighted by the sun, was a little dark and cold.
Wood pieces were coming out from the sand and has to be avoided, since
they could pierce or cut.
Some crabs were moving in her direction, probably to reach the rocks
behind her.

"Yufufu... Uneasy crabs want to attack Chen, but Chen got it in time!
Yufufu!" Immediately, Chen started rolling towards her left, using the
little pending of the beach: *roll... roll...STOP.*

Then, fast as a snake, she stopped her rotation: her eyes quickly
scanning the area, a cunning look on her face: "Yufufu! Chen gets it!"

Actually, the crabs are never a problem for a yukkuri: unless we talk
about a newborn koyukkuri, it's too big to be really attacked. Also,
it moves and can jump and shake itself in the worst of the cases.
Their weapon, the claws, aren't really suited either: unless a yukkuri
stay perfectly still, they don't have enough strength to cut its
elastic skin in a single blow. On the contrary, a crab attack would
just be like a little painful pinch.

The reason why Chen chose to avoid them with that strange tactic were
basically two: because she was a super easy scout and... well, because
it was fun!

-

Until now we have particularly considered just the two unfortunate
events of Chen's life, but we don't have to be deceived!
Sure, stray life is harsh and sometimes the sea can fill Chen's easy
nest while taking away all of her supplies, but that's not all that
Chen has in life!
Rubbing against the easy Mister Sand... there, a little far away,
where there aren't wood pieces! Singing aloud in the hottest hours of
the day, when no one is around... sometimes even the seagulls, easy
because their stomach is full, join with the singing!
Her little treasures! How to forget them... Chen, being the super
scout she is, collected a lot of empty shells on the beach and
treasured them in a little hole in her nest.
There, she can watch them until she is satisfied and play with them.
There's even an easy little rock and her super treasure, Mister Shiny-
Shiny, a little jewel filled with magic that shines when put under the
sun!
Chen was a great hunter indeed, to find such a magical item!

...and after all, being Mister Shiny-Shiny just a plastic piece of a
broken toy abandoned in the trash dump, we cannot ignore Chen's
ability to give even to the tinier things some sort of value.
Even if those are just stupid rocks, broken shells or a crappy plastic
piece, she values them as something that can still have a soul, that
still 'lives'... and who knows, maybe the reason why yukkuris are
considered magical is not because they are talking manjus who can jump
around and speak in a language similar to those of the humans; maybe
they are magical because they can still see the world on a good light,
because they can give some value even on stupid things or actions,
like rubbing with each other, while the reality continues to drop
harshness right onto their faces.
Maybe most of the time they are actually taking it easy indeed, since
they're satisfied with very little.

And Chen was satisfied indeed! The dangerous crabs avoided, she slowly-
slowly headed for an empty canister nearby and then near to the pub
walls..
She had to be quick, the sun was already rising!
And so, while the first rays of light started illuminating the endless
trail of sand and sea and the boats were coming into the port, Chen's
day began for real: the seagulls avoided, it was time to catch up some
easy munch-munch.
And that's the reason why she was already up.

-

Now near to the asphalt ramp, the awakening seagulls far away, Chen
raised up her head a little and scouted the ramp itself.
"Yu. No Misters around! Go easy!" and jumped on.

There were two ways to reach the nearest pier from Chen's nest: one it
was through the beach and then another reef adjacent to the pier
itself, but it was dangerous because of the pointy rocks, the pieces
of wood and the already coming seagulls.
The other was through the beach and then taking the long road into the
port itself.
Seeing the things this way, one could object that the port route is a
suicide: Chen has to walk on the beach for a while, come near the pub/
cafeteria while it's opening and make a little jump on the ramp where
there could be cars and trucks just to reach the port.
Then she has to go inside a place full of humans, avoiding at the same
time the larger road. Then she has to reach the pier, and then do what
she has to do.
Without mentioning the fact that she has to do the same thing
backwards right after.
Well... actually Chen would disagree with you, since she has a well
rounded method to take her easy meal, developed while she was growing
up.

The first times and when she was growing, she had survived eating some
garbage near the pub during the night. This was safer, but after a
while she recognized that she had to defend her meals against cats and
eventually stray dogs. And that was more a task for Marisa.
She managed to resist for about three weeks until she became an adult,
and then started to go hunting like her mother did. She knew how to do
it, at least in theory, and since the crabs weren't scary anymore she
practiced onto them. Not that she could eat them, they were hard and
uneasy... but it was still practice.
The practice, the previous scouting she had done when Marisa was still
there and a lot of confidence were the ingredients for this everyday
bold plan.

This confidence, after all, was pretty much justified: since from when
her Mommie was killed, Chen had to change homes since she and Marisa
were too scared to return under the pier. She had to find another easy
nest only to discover that it was near her uneasy 'enemies' and she
had to lose her easy sis, while bravely fighting against two Mister
Humans. But she overcame everything of this. Chen was a super easy
Chen.

And according to this confidence, her plan was bold indeed: going into
the port, on the pier... to steal some precious and tasty Mister
Fishes.

Fishes were the easiest possible food for Chen: Mommie made her nest
right under the pier just to get and take them to her little ones.
Mister Fish tasted extremely good, and when it was fresh right after
the fishing... yunyaaaa! What an easy meal! Happyne-ss!

But how to do it in an already busy port? Simple: because there were
no Mister Humans until the really last moment. The pub/cafeteria was
open but still devoid of people, since the boats were about to depart.
The only workers at the port were on the ramp, or driving or something
similar: if they were at the port, they were at the pier to help their
friends and colleagues.

The seagulls were still sleeping, and Chen was used to wake up before
them just to be already on the ramp when the boats were arriving. Such
a well rounded method, other than deserving a praise for its
cleverness, simply worked incredibly well: since about three months it
had never failed, except for the stormy or rainy days, when Chen knew
that outside was dangerous and stayed in her nest while munch-munching
her supplies or simply going at night night near the pub to get some
fresh meal. Now the cats weren't scary anymore.

---

The right was safe.
*Glance*
The left too.

"Yu! Time for Chen to hunt! Easy! Chen is a super scout!" said Chen,
and then she started going up to the ramp.

"slowly...slowly..."

Some cars and the big container truck were parked right up the ramp,
and provided the cunning yukkuri all the cover she needed.

"Slowly... yu, Chen gets it!" The ramp now finished, Chen could watch
all the port: buildings, the big crane and right after a lot of
containers... the pier n°1!
Since those were empty containers, they weren't so well placed: they
had to be moved after every new expedition after all, and so were put
on each other a bit randomly.
This continuous practice to move containers here and there always gave
Chen a lot of new passages, still unnoticed, to let her go near the
pier were the sailors were discharging the boxes full of fishes.
Needless to say, it was all the yukkuri could hope for.

"Yu-hu! Happiness!"

Sure that nowhere was to be found, Chen happily bounced towards a new
openly passage on the ground level.
Then, after she was near enough to hear the humans' voices, she
immediately went silent and started crawling towards the boxes, while
paying attention to stay in the shadows.
While the easy fish smell could already be felt, she had to be patient
to get her chance: she had only a tentative, after all.

"Yu... mister smell is so good...hnnff... easy... Chen wants to munch-
munch..."

Yet, she had to be careful and wait silently while the easiness
promise was dangerously tempting. She had not to be seen by any uneasy
Mister Human, or at least be seen when it was already too late.

---

"Aaaand HOP! Hufff... just how many sardines did you actually catch
this night?" murmured Jim, while carrying a huge box from the boat to
the dry land.

"Hehe! This time we were really lucky, man! Friday's gonna be a great
day for our wallet!"

"Lucky for you maybe... this night you were helped by the mechanical
capstan, while I have to carry this- whoa! Don't fall don't fall
don't... Fuck Bill, give me a hand!"

"Too much beard my friend!" teased Bill while coming out of the boat
to help his colleague: "It drains the energy out of your arm to
nourish itself! ...you have to be careful: if the beard has started
taking energy from the arms instead of your brain it means that it's
becoming too powerful and yo-"

"Fuck off, idiot!"grumbled Jim while chuckling: "And now help me to
carry this box. I already dropped some fishes on the ground and while
we have a lot of them, I don't wanna lose other anymore."

Chen's super easy sight caught the chance the same instant the uneasy
Mister Human made some munch-munch fell on the ground. Usually Chen
waited for the humans to go away before taking the food, but they
always left just some little pieces: this time she had already spotted
a full grown sardine on the ground.
A big, delicious, easy sardine.
What a good munch-munch! Too easy to be ignored! It would have been
such a waste to let Mister Sardine on the ground, while a super easy
yukkuri like Chen was starving!

"Yu..M-mister Sardine... itadakimasu... Chen... gets it, Mister
Sardine is tasty easy! Yu-yuuu!"

And so she run right after the fish using all her speed. It wasn't the
first time she used this other clever technique, she knew it was safer
than how it sounded: the uneasy Mister Human couldn't attack her
because his arms were already busy. The other humans were on the boats
or however busy with other boxes.
The fact that she was going to be spotted wasn't that of a problem in
any case, since the pier was the closest to the beach. And while the
beach was right after the dangerous reef, the pier was actually
heightened from the ground: Chen just had to run towards the fish,
grab it with her little teeth, run towards the other side of the pier
and jump over the reef!
The distance was not too far, and her speed provided her protection
from the other humans and from the wood pieces near to the reef, since
her jump distance was a little longer.
Landing on the easy sand wasn't too hard, and since the seagulls were
now away the only thing she needed to do was going to her easy nest,
eating a delicious munch-munch, get refreshed and go out playing with
the crabs.
Mister Crab was so funny now, instead of scary like when she was about
3 weeks old! Mister Crab always went towards Chen trying to go home
and rarely trying to attack her with his tiny claws.
Needless to say, this was extremely fun to Chen, since she was fastest
and always knew when the crab was about to do something. In that case,
and sometimes just for fun, she always used her tails to lightly hit
the crab and trowing it in air.
"Yu! Mister Crab, like flying in the sky! Yu-yuu! Be thankful to easy
Chen, easy Chen is the easiest!" she was used to shout, when the crab
landed on the sand a little far away, and then run away scared.

-

Chen jumped out of the narrow passage and quickly run towards the
fish.
"Yu! Mister Fish be taken easy!"

Jim, while troubled by the big box he had on his shoulders, simply
glanced a movement towards himself with the tail of his eye, and
become unbalanced on his feet.

"What's-whoa...not again... Billhurryuphurryoooh!" he exclaimed, and
to be stable on the ground he moved his right fight more on the right.
Just when Chen was coming.

"YUwa! Easily dodged!" said Chen, while avoiding the uneasy Mister
human's foot, clearly there to hit her, and then caught her easy meal
with her mouth.

"Easy! Waaa?!?"

Unfortunately, since different from what she thought, she was quickly
blocked by the presence of another Mister Human, who wasn't supposed
to be there!
Why, why? Chen didn't get it!!! Humans were supposed to be busy or on
the boat!!!

Bill had landed on the firm ground right when Chen was avoiding his
friends' foot. And when he came on the pier, he found right before him
a yukkuri that somehow reminded him of...

"Oh! THAT'S YOU!" exclaimed Bill, surprised but instantly happy.
It was the yukkuri of some months ago!

---

He could still remember about that day. Until then, he hadn't ever
killed another living being, not consciously at least, and that fact
left him sad for about the whole day.
His friend had tried to convince him that it hadn't been his fault,
but Bill kept asking himself if that tragedy could have been avoided,
somehow.
Also, he had been worried about the other yukkuri, the one who still
lived: Was it safe? Had tit been able to come back safely to its
family?

Luckily, it seemed that it was so. He wasn't a man who saw a lot of
yukkuris in his life, but that green hat could have been recognized
without any problem.

"Yukkuri! You're safe!" he exclaimed while smiling.

"YUWAA!!! WHY IS MISTER HUMAN HEEEEREE!! CHEN DOESN'T GET IIIT!!!"
screamed the cat-like being, Mister Sardine falling on the ground
again.

"Biiiilll... heeelp me...."

"No, don't be afraid yukkuri... I don't want to-"

Chen started running: "WAAA RUN AWAY EA-yuuu! Mister fish..."
...but then she stopped and turned around. Mister fish! She had to
take her easy meal, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to eat
today!

"Biiiiillll..."

"No yukkuri, don't run away... Do you want the sardine? Here, you can
take it... we don't want to-"

"Holy shit Bill move your ass and come to help me-WHOA!"

Dammit, Jim was about to fall! Quickly Bill stopped talking and went
to grab the heavy box.
That was the occasion Chen was waiting for: "Yu! Super quickly!" she
said, while running towards the munch-munch and the two humans, as
fast as she could.
Rapidly, she caught the fish again and then started running away, her
moment already lost.
Maybe already too late.

The two men dropped the box on the ground, and Bill immediately went
for the yukkuri: he had to stop her, she was heading towards the reef!
He knew the reef very well, since he had been working here since about
a couple of years. The rocks were pointy, and there were some wood
pieces that could be considered dangerous even for a human: he had to
stop the yukkuri before it could hurt itself!

"anf...anf...
...
...anf..." Chen was already near the reef itself, her paste core
pumping yukkudrenaline in her paste, her little ears curved down to
take even more speed.

"Fuck... there's dangerous, yukkuri! JAAACK! Stop that yukkuri!!!"

Working near the canister not so far away, another sailor had already
saw the scene since when Jim started shouting. He couldn't have been
seen, since the passage Chen was previously in didn't let her have a
complete vision of the whole pier.
She had assumed no one was there since the other boats were a little
far away, and since at that time he wasn't talking or making
significant noises.

Not knowing why his colleague was asking this, Jack assumed that the
yukkuri was a thief to be caught.
Thief? Damn right, watch it! It has a fish in its mouth!
Quickly, he turned around and act as a wall between Chen and the
border of the pier towards the beach, opening his arms and shouting to
scare her.

"AAAAHH!" he shouted, while making all the seagulls fly away.

"WAAAAAAAAHAAA!!! CHEN RUN AWAY EASYYY!!!" screamed Chen, somehow
managing to keep Mister Sardine in her mouth.

While running between the containers since her escape route was now
closed, she realized that there was the other route, there was still
the other!

---

Meanwhile, right when Chen was going to the containers before coming
to the pier, a man went to the big truck.

"Move the truck, they say... Joe this, Joe that... Damn, if they knew
a ship was coming today why didn't they make this yesterday!"

Poor Joe, he was unlucky with vehicles: his car had died about some
months ago because of a battery-related problem, the motorcycle he had
borrowed lasted about three days and until then he had been forced to
go to work with a bicycle.
And now, he had to move a big container truck without having the
proper license because a ship was coming and no one had done anything
before.

"I should ask for a higher salary, dammit... oh." He stopped his
mumblings when he noticed where the truck was.

"No, just no... dammit. I am not a genius when it comes to cars, BUT
WHO THE FUCK PARKS A HEAVY TRUCK ON A RAMP!
...It's incredible it's still there."

Nevertheless, he had to come down the ramp, doing some maneuvers, and
then come back in the port, this time in the right direction.

He jumped on the driving seat, closed the door and started turning the
steering wheel: burning the clutch again wasn't an option, especially
since he wasn't really used to trucks.
He choose to simply pull off the handbrake and go down the ramp with
the engine switched-off.

-

"WAAHAAAA!!! WAAAHAAAAAAA!!!!! anf... anf... heavy Mister Fish, get
more light... easy... anf..."

Prevented from running at her full speed, it was only a matter of time
before the uneasy Mister Human would have been able to catch her.
Chen had to do something, and do it quickly!

"Yu... anf... yuwa..."

The ramp was already in sight: jumping from here wasn't possible
anymore since of a little brick wall built there to prevent cars from
eventually falling, but still...
...there were a car and Mister Machinery!

Mister Machinery was asleep now, Chen got it! Mister Machinery is
awake only when he makes noises and breathes uneasy mister smoke!
And the truck was asleep indeed, and could be used as hideout until
the uneasy humans were finally deceived.
Still... it was too far away!
Chen was already there, but Mister Human should have already been over
the corner and if he had Chen spotted before she could hide under
Mister Machinery everything would have become pointless!

But how to become faster?
Sadly, Chen knew the answer: Mommie taught her in the hard way, with
her example.
She had to drop her easy meal.

But... Mister Sardine was tasty! It was fresh and delicious and easy!
Chen could have eaten it while safe in her nest, pleased by Mister
Waves merry sound, near to her easy treasures, near to Mister Shiny-
Shiny!

"Yu.... yuuuu... Chen doesn't get it... why has Chen to leave here her
easy meeaaall..." Chen murmured, on the verge of tears.
However she wasn't that greedy. While Mister Sardine was easy, Chen's
health was easier, and Chen was a super smart yukkuri: immediately but
not without regrets, she dropped the fish...

"Yu..."

...and went right under the truck, near as possible to the lower right
wheel.

---

"Uff.. sure these things are fast... ah-ha! Here it is!" said Jack
while spotting the sardine: "Take that, you filthy thief... humans 1 -
yukkuris 0! Hahaha!"

Right after, Bill reached him: "Did you stopped it?" he asked.

"Uh? Sorry man, I couldn't. It simply disappeared, it was too fast.
But watch this! Hahaaaa!" cheered Jack while waving the fish in the
air, sure that the thief was still there, somewhere.

"Ooh man... stop it, don't be an asshole."

"And why? Weren't you trying to stop that thief too?" asked Jack,
unsure because his colleague was apparently angry.

"C'mon! It's just a damned fish, it won't make us go bankrupt!!!
Yukkurii!" started searching Bill: "Yukkuri, come here! I'll give it
back to you, just come here! We are not bad!"

"What's his problem?!" murmured Jack, leaving the place to go back to
work.

Coming across Jim, he said to him: "You should take Bill to the doc,
man. Who the fuck would care for some paste thieves..."

Jim raised his shoulders: "He's always been this way, what can I do.
And besides, caring for the others is not a flaw."

"Tzè... the next thing will be opening a shop just for manjus.
Bullshit." hissed Jack while going away, clearly dissatisfied because
of his colleagues behavior.

Without caring for Jack's opinions, Jim went for his friend: it was
too late again, the yukkuri was surely somewhere else and they had a
work to finish.

-

Well hidden from Mister Machinery's wheel, Chen observed the uneasy
humans going for her.
She was super hidden, but she had to be quiet and wait. Maybe they
were going to go somewhere else, and leave Mister Sardin-"Mister
Sardine! Noo!" she quietly said.
Too late already: the uneasy Mister Human took her tasty munch-munch
and went away.
But the other was still there, shouting his rage and trying to deceive
Chen.
But Chen got it, mister humans weren't easy.

And then, the unexpected came.

-

Right above Chen, Joe pulled the handbrake off.
The truck suddenly moved forward, in a jump-like motion.

Not a good driver indeed, since burning the clutch in a descent road
is quite impossible.
Actually, if you try to go down a road with your engine turned off,
the only thing you obtain is losing the braking effect of the lower
gears.

"DAMN!" he exclaimed, and immediately started pushing all the brakes
he could find and finally stopped the truck again.

"Yu.. Chen is Chen... Chen has to go away ea-Yu?"
*Click*
Suddenly the wheel started moving towards her, merciless.

"YUWAA!" shouted Chen, not caring anymore about secrecy: Mister
Machinery was awake!!! But how?

She immediately jumped a little on the left, not too long since she
had a sort of roof above her: "WHHYYY!!! WHY IS MISTER MACHINERY
AWAKE, MISTER MACHINERY DON'T LET CHEN BE DISCOVERED EA-
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHAAAA!!!!"

"Ugh! Finally stopped again!" said Joe, a little too panicked to hear
the screams of the yukkuri above him: while the wheel couldn't stomp
Chen directly, it had succeeded in hitting something else: one of
Chen's tails, that was now under several tons of weight.

"YUWAAAA!!! IT HURTS, IT HURTS! Yu... Mister Machinery, go away
easy... go away easy, Chen didn't do anything against you...
yuuuuuhuuu..." Chen cried, while trembling because of the sudden pain.

And then, as answering to Chen requests, the big trucked was turned on
by Joe and started making his usual noises: *WWROOOM! Vum-vum-vum..*

"YUWAAA! DON'T BE ANGRY MISTER MACHINERY! Chen is a super easy Chen,
Chen is a good yukkuri! Don't kill Chen, move away easy, please! Chen
will... Chen will bring you food tomorrow so... "

*WROOOM!* Joe finally moved the truck away and down the ramp. Luckily
Chen hided near to the bottom wheel, so she hadn't to avoid any other
wheel.

"WAAAA UNEASY MISTER DON'T- yu?" immediately, she found herself under
a blue sky, with the sun that was almost high: the truck had moved
away, leaving her alone with her butchered tail.

-

Bill was still there, searching for the yukkuri: it couldn't have run
so far away, it should have been still there!
The truck started moving, the sound of his engine covering any
eventual voices.

"Bill, we have to go!" said Jim, while touching his shoulder.

"WHAT? I can't hear you!"

"I SAID BILL WE HAVE TO GO NOW!!! WORK! LET'S MOVE!”

"BUT THE YUKKURI..."

"...aaa...yuwaaaa..."

"I KNOW BUT IT WILL BE FINE, WE CANNOT SEARCH AROUND ALL THE DAY!"

"...illl... Chen's beautiful taiiiil... waaaa..."

"DON'T YOU REMEMBER ABOUT THE OTHER TIME?" shouted Jim, while the
truck was going forward and behind.

Dammit, who was that incompetent driver? It was an almost straight
road!

"SHE IS GOING TO HER FAMILY, THEY WILL BE TAKE CARE OF HER! IT'S NOT
THAT IT'S HURT, RIGHT?"

"...aaa... running awayyy... yuwaaahaaa.."

Finally, Joe managed to move the truck, somehow. Well, not really.

"Bill, we are going to see it in some days anyway. C'mon, we have a
work to do."

"Uh...Yes, you are right. After all, she seemed to like that fish a
lot. We'll be more careful the next time."

Jim was unmoved, caressing his beard: "You really like yukkuris, don't
you?"

"Well... apparently yes. I didn't realize it until I saw her some
minutes ago." answered the friend.

"Then why don't you go to the recent yukkuri shop that they opened
downtown? You could buy one of those and take care of it.” Jim
proposed.

"You are right but... Dunno, I wanted a stray one. She has probably
lived a harsh life until now, I'd like to show her that the humans
aren't bad. Except maybe Jack, but he goes deer hunting, so I had to
expect it."

"Haha! Sure, Jack is particular... well, I can understand you. Not
that I particularly care for her but... she doesn't deserve to suffer
anymore."

"Exactly. Now, let's go back to work."

"OOOH, finally, hahaha! I was thinking you were using the yukkuri as
an excuse, you lazy worker!"

"Mrgh... go fuck yourself, beard man... GOODBYE YUKKURI, I'LL SEE YOU
SOON!" shouted Bill while waving his hand in the air, sure that she
was going to hear him.

It was going to be difficult, but he was sure that they could
understand human language. Maybe she would have understood that they
weren't bad after all, if they greeted her when she was going away.

---

But Chen was already on the beach, running for her life.
Being the ramp relatively short, she had managed to run through it and
then run around the pub without being noticed, even if she was under
extreme pain.
But now that she was on the sand, she could finally check her easy
tail.

"Yu... it urtchs... yu...” her eyes dropping a little river of tears,
her mouth a little salty from the pain.

"Yu...!
...
...uuuuuUUUUUUU!!!! MISTER TAIIILLL!!! MISTER TAIL!!!" she cried,
noticing that her tail was shortened by several centimeters.

Rather than cut it was ripped, and a bit amount of bean paste was
flowing out, leaving a trail of paste on the sand.

"Yuuuuuu....yuhuuuuu!!! Mister Pain, go away! Mister Tail... lick-
lick... yu..."

Usually Chen found this part of the beach extremely easy, since there
weren't wood pieces yet. When the sun was high in the sky, the sand
always turned warm, and rubbing with it was an extremely easy
pleasure.
But not now. Now the pain was too much.
While being this a painful wound, it wasn't really fatal if treated.
Chen was already doing lick-lick, and after putting on it a bit of
sand she had simply to stay still (while in pain, obviously) in order
to let the wound close by itself.

Mommie was right, Marisa was right, humans were scary!
Scarier than Mister Seagulls, scarier than the really uneasy Mister
Machinery... they always tried to kill Chen!
Maybe the port wasn't safe anymore. Maybe Chen should have been happy
with going to search for munch-munch near the coffee building with
mister cats and mister dogs.

But then, she heard that voice: "...kkuri... yukkuri, I will find
you..."

Her ears immediately raised and stood still: "Yu? YUUU!?!?!? Mister
Human spotted Chen! Why, why!!! Chen doesn't get it!!" she exclaimed,
her mouth open wide because of a mix between fear and pain.
She had to stay still to treat her wound, she couldn't move!
But Mister Human was scary!!! She had spotted her, she had to run
away!

"Mister Nest!!!" Chen realised.

Yes, Mister Nest was the right option: the entrance was covered, but
she could enter into it easily and then strengthen the boundary, in
order to defend herself easy!
Defend herself... from... Mister Human.

"Mister Human!!! YUWAAAA!!!" shouted Chen, and immediately run away.

However, she hadn't considered a thing enough: while her wound was
still open, she wasn't feeling that much pain now, since she was
keeping her tailed unmoved.
But if she had to run...

"WAAAA!!! YUWAAAAHAAAA!!!"

...her wounded tail started bouncing here and there, opening itself
even more.

"Mister neeest, be near easyyy!!!"

Blinded from the pain, she stopped paying attention to the
surroundings and missed to notice that now there were wood pieces,
broken bottles and dangerous things again.
She was already in the seagulls' nest zone.

"It hurts, it hurts!!! IT HURTS, WAAAAHAAAAA!!!" she cried, tears
flowing from her eyes, her mouth opened because of her shouts.

"ICH HURTSH ICH HURTSH-*Gush! RRRRRRIIIIIPPPPPP..*
YUWAAAAAAAAAHAAA!!!"
Chen turned on her left, to see horrified another cut on her side: it
was a pointy from a broken bottle, hidden in the sand!!
She couldn't have it avoided, it was hidden! She had almost landed on
him, and it opened her side with a really bad cut.

*drip, drip, drip...* her insides were coming out as well!

"NOOO, DON'T COME OUT EASY!!! Insides, go inside!!"

Chen lied down on the sand, unsure of what to do: the pain was
unbearable, if she tried to moving the paste always flew out!

"Yu..."

Her easy nest was there, was near!!! She had to go inside to treat her
wounds, but it was painful!

“Mister... Pain, go away... see... I'll do super lick-lick for you...
here... lick-lick... Ungh... lick-lick..."

Needless to say, licking her side was quite difficult without moving
herself.

She stayed there for about ten minutes, under the hot sun.
Now the pleasant warmth wasn't easy anymore.

"Itsh... hot... yu... lick..." nevertheless, she kept going.
Then, a merciful shadow came upon her.
"Yu? YU! Mister cold, easy!" she said while glancing upwards... to see
the seagulls.

The seagulls were supposed to be full at this hour, but since she and
Jack had scared them before, they had to fly away still hungry.
Lucky for them, now there was some food.

*Kyaaaa! KyaaaAAA!*

"Waaaahaaaa... uneasy seagull, go away! Chen is not tasty, Chen is not
tasty!" shouted Chen, while bumping towards her hole as fast as she
could: "Chen is injured, can't you get it?!? Go away Mister Seagulls,
go awa-YUGHAAAA!"

Fast as a lightning, the first seagull flew down and immediately
caught Chen's left side with his open beak, ripping this way her side
and making some of her insides drop down on the ground, as well as her
ZUN hat.

The seagull was extremely pleased. It was the second time it succeeded
in eating something like this... it was really good!
And after all it was also a simple meal: unlike fishes, this soft
animals weren't so difficult to catch, if unmoving.

"YuGHARGH... yuuuGhaaaaa UNEASY SEAGULL DROP DEAD EASYYY!!!" screamed
Chen, while biting the seagull's neck.
Not this time. Not like Mommie. Chen was a healthy yukkuri, angered
beyond any reason because of her pain and her lack of lunch. Mister
Machinery injured her, mister humans were uneasy... but the appearance
of her old enemies was simple too much for her mind not to break.

"Munch!!! Uneajy jeagull djop... yuuuuuuurgh!!!"

"Kyaaa!"
Pained, the seagull dropped her and flew away scared. The other kept
flying around in circles, not sure anymore of what to do. This meal
was dangerous.

-

Crawling, Chen reached her easy nest.

"Yu..." she pushed somehow the boundary and entered, almost rolling on
the ground.
Her left side was opened, the pain unbearable. The tail wasn't that
important anymore.
Desperately, she reached for her stash to find some food to treat her
wounds, to find it almost empty: there was just some rests of a half
munch-munched mackerel.

"Yu... lick.. yu...itsh... shalty... anf..."

Her breathing slowing down, Chen suddenly felt tired. There wasn't
even pain anymore, it was nice...
Chen, while frowning a little, smiled: there was Mister Food, there
was Mister Place to do sleep-sleep... it was everything easy!
A tear on her left eye, here without apparently reason since sometimes
the body realises things that the mind refuses to, came down to her
cheek and then on the ground.
While lying on the ground, she couldn't turn anymore and was forced to
watch in front of her: her treasures were there, silent, guarding over
her.

"Mish...ter... shell."

The little gray shell, while in semidarkness, silently listened to the
yukkuri without answering back.
*click-click-click-click...*
A strange noise was around, Chen heard it clearly. Was it a joke
because she was tired?
What an easy sound... it was rhythmical, soft... easy...

"Mishter Shiny-Shiny... watch over Chen'sh easy... sleep, yunya..."

For her last time, Chen lifted her eyes towards her easiest treasure.
While protected from the sun it was somehow shining in a bright
light... it was shining... moving...

...moving?

Chen forced herself to stay awake and concentrated, just to find
herself surrounded by a horde of Mister Crabs.
Actually, they shouldn't have been there. Their easy home was a little
far away...?

Yes, it was far away. And Chen had prevented them to go to their home
since days, while hitting them with her tail and picking them up with
her little mouth to play, and leave them on Mister Rock.
Afar from home, the crabs, well known for not having this incredible
sense for orientation, simply decided to follow their stomach: after
all now there was a trail of sweet food right till the entrance of the
nest, and while the other crabs were out already eating, these still
hadn't had anything to eat yet.

"Mister...Crab...go away... Chen is... not... "

*click-click-click*, their little feet ticketing on the rocks were
coming closer and closer.
Chen let herself lay down on the ground since she hadn't anymore
strength in her body., her left side already cold, her tail not even
painful anymore.
The tiredness was just too much.
"Mister... Shiny... help Chen take it... easy."

And Mister Shiny-Shiny was the last thing her right eye could see,
before a crab's quick attack pierced right through it.

---

Maybe the reason we consider yukkuris as magical beings is because
they can still see the world as a good place, despite everything.
Because they can give some value even on stupid things or actions,
like rubbing with each other and be easy with everyone who lets them
to, while the reality doesn't always allow that.
Maybe most of the time they are actually taking it easy indeed, since
they're satisfied with very little.

And probably they are right.
Reality can be as harsh as she wants, but cannot take us away what we
have inside of our heart: being it a desire, a dream, a feeling or
something else... it's ours, and it's our right to decide who will
benefit of it.

Maybe we are all prisoners of a cruel world, after all. Prisoners
whose only act of freedom is giving the little we have to the others,
being they objects, living beings or a the stupid plastic piece of a
broken toy.
Sometimes they decide not to accept our little but important offer...
and sometimes they do the opposite, becoming a trace of our passage.
It's just a trace, that's all. But the world, despite how cruel it can
be, cannot take it down no matter what.

Mister Shiny-Shiny was born as plastic trash and 'lived' like that.
But for Chen it wasn't. And being the crabs not interested in it, it
stayed there, in Chen's easy nest, as a silent guardian to whatever
was important to her when she was alive.
In the semidarkness, hit by a sunlight ray, Mister Shiny-Shiny
effectively shined for a little while.
It's colors, going form orange to light pink, lighted the whole nest
in a really easy way.

...
...
...

The next day, by the time the sun was high in the sky, the high tide
had already taken everything away.

End.

Answer to your question: Look at how in your first post, the story is
cut off and there's the "read more" link? Sometimes, it's annoying to
read and then be cut off and have to dig through a new page to find
where you left off. That's why people post multiple sections. I've
stopped doing that because it's kind of hard to find good places to
make cuts, and given how long some of my chapters are, it really
stretches out the post.

If you wish to do the same, the magic number of words per post before
"read more" happens is around 9000-10000 characters.

Hehe... I always believed that it was a sort of "this way my story
will seem longer" reasoning!
Thanks for the magic number, but I think I'll stick to my usual unless
more than two people will require otherwise... basically for your same
reasons.
The annoyance lasts about 5 seconds, so I don't think that finding
where you were reading is too much of a burden :/

;_; Poor Chen, she deserved to be happy, she was a good yukkuri who
had only suffered and tried to take it easy. She deserved to know that
some humans were easy like Bill.

Great Story, a sad ending, but not all the stories can have a happy
ending

I used to post in 1 big chunk, but after trying to read through them I
felt like "oh my god that is such a long post", and it wasn't the best
reading experience. So now I split mine up into "arcs" or different
ideas, and since I tend to jump around a lot in my stories, it works
out fairly well. One post is one segment of ideas, the next a
different segment. I find it hard to post within the 9000 character
limit, but I'm willing to test it out sometime soon. :)

As for the story, I feel that it was very good, very nature based with
everything going against the yukkuri.... not in a bad way but
realistic in showing life is a harsh mistress. I feel like it has a
good moral premisis as well, how many of us truly treasure the little
things we have around us? We throw away things every day the yukkuris
would consider "Treasures", and it seems silly to compare it to a
fictional yukkuri story, but realistically... many people in 3rd world
countries would kill for what we throw away every day.

On the good side of the story... Chen wants very little, and for a
good part of her life she got what she wanted. How many desires do
each and every one of us have, and how many of us can truly satisfy as
much of it as Chen did? Maybe she didn't end her life in a disney
fashion, but she did, in a sense, take it easy in the end.

Truly a thought-provoking story, in more ways than one.

There's also the little bit of tragic fridge logic, Seeing as If Bill
hadn't gotten involved at that point, Chen likely would not have even
gotten hurt. He stopped it, drew attention to it, and caused it to
panic after it had gotten to the beach.

It does raise some sort of dissonance, when you think that, somehow
this chen wishing for little and just trying to survive but not really
wanting to bother outside of getting food, even if i don't approve
much of stealing from humans out of a pragmatic point of view, not all
humans are benevolent to non human thiefs specially yukkuris so it was
more a death wish to deal this often with humans by stealing from
them, meanwhile we have scums and shitheads somehow blooming or
prospering against many odds, specially the lesser intelligence
compared to yukkuris like Chen who actually was smart enough to
remember patterns or times on which would be good to "fetch" a fish
from the mister humans.

Long made short, dammit mother nature you are doing it wrong, you have
to be merciless with the scum and shitheads, they are the non
productive and counter nature ones! Not good yukkus like this Chen.

Thanks for the feedback to everyone.

@Poweryoga: it's not the right place to tell this, but if you happen
to have the money and the time for a vacation try something like South
Africa (since differently from other african countries is somehow...
more civilized. In a "meh" way, of course).
I guarantee that it's an experience that forces people to grow up, no
matter their age. After you'll feel like you are on holidays 365 day a
year, so to be cynic it's also a bargain.

Back on more appropriated themes,
>>>but she did, in a sense, take it easy in the end.
Of course she did! Every yukkuri of mine takes it easy!!!
...In a way or another, har-har-har...

@MET: you'll notice that in the story there's a little part about
"being suited for the environment".
Malicious question: are you sure that mother nature is doing it wrong?
Differently from some of us, Nature is not simpathetic and consider
only the pragmatic results.
And if we consider the urban environment... the most suited yukkuris
for stray life are exactly the scum ones! A scum Marisa is strong, can
force a nice Reimu out of her nest and live in it easy, if she is
smart enough to venture outside only when needed.
Unless we consider the so called "shit-heads" (gah, how I hate this
word), which basically beg for food in their own particular way... but
those, more than yukkuris, are fertilizer in evolution.

See you next story!

Personally, I assume most invasions of human homes are by wild yukkuri
that ventured into the city recently. I expect yukkuri that live IN
the city for long to have learned pretty quickly how dangerous humans
are.

Mother Nature does it wrong because it's those scums and shitheads the
one that bring negative effects on the enviroments, basically they
focus on taking it easy for the sake of taking it easy that it leads
to some serious cases of overgrazing and leaving fertile lands barren.

So yeah, i don't think that's much of a possitive evolutionary trait,
specially if they can't fix it themselves, the same way humans can fix
their ecological unfriendly aspects (chop a forest, plant a forest,
etc.)

In Survival it may be fit that the Scums and Shitheads prevail, but
that doesn't make it right, evolutionary correct, ecologically
friendly, etc. Specially because it's that very agressiveness and
desire for easiness no matter the cost, that puts them in odds with
everything that this world has, Mister Humans being the most
notorious.
