I've been trying to decide between some sort of xtracycle and the
Mundo. And one thing that has been suggested repeatedly (by people
who have never tried the Mundo) is that the gear range seems
inadequate.

Do you Mundo riders find that the low gear is low enough?

Also, what is the standover height?

Yeah I'd have to say that the gearing is a bit too high, especially if
you live in a very hilly area and carry quite heavy loads like I do.

I have found the gearing quite sufficient for carrying myself and my
shopping, up to around 30kg. I live in Auckland, NZ, which is fairly
hilly.

The one time that I had to walk the bike was at a Critical Mass when I
was carrying a fellow cyclist and towing his punctured bike. We got
up a few small rises, but had to walk the one major climb we
encountered.

If you're regularly going to be carrying 80+kg loads up and down hills
then I would suggest getting a lower gear.

For lower gearing I can recommend replacing the 6-speed freewheel by a 11-34 freewheel  (11/13/15/21/24/34).
They cost about $20 retail. It can make a difference.
