Folks,
As you know, the current chromeless player is a SWF that was developed
with AS2. This is creating huge problems for us who are dabbling with
AS3 and/or Flex. The problem is that the chromeless player needs an
AS2 wrapper in order to implement communication between that wrapper
and one's AS3 application.
Obout a month ago, a kludge was posted. While the developer was
brilliant and able to make it all work, the posted code was incomplete
and full of bugs. An invitation was made by Jeff, for the developer to
blog about and explain the solution but from what I can tell it never
happened.
In absence of a more formal solution, this is all great and
wonderful. However, there are large numbers of us Flash developers
who only dabble with ActionScript and who are not able to make to work
this almost solutions. Looking at what has been posted, my own
estimate is that it is no more than a day of effort for a competent
AS2/3 developer to take what is there, clean it up and package it into
AS2/3 classes and/or Flex components with a couple of pages of
documentation.
In reality, what is really needed going forward is a native AS3
implementation of the SWF player itself. However, judging by how
difficult it is to get a clean and working AS3 wrapper, I would settle
for the wrapper for now. Please give this your consideration. Pretty
please.
Sincerely,
Zdravko
