The Abode of the Message is seeking a couple or single farmer starting
in
the 2010 season interested in community living. We are a dynamic,
nonprofit
residential community and retreat/conference center located on 300+
acres
cradled in the Taconic-Berkshire Mountains of Upstate New York at the
former
Mt. Lebanon Shaker community.

Must have experience in eco-agriculture and soil enrichment for
vegetable
production on 5-acres organically farmed for 30 years. Goal is to
supply
produce for the community and conference center. Potential for CSA.
Must be
able to supervise interns and work exchange. Salary and housing
negotiable.

Position Title: Farm to School Education Coordinator (Americorps
position)

Work Schedule: Full-time; Mon- Fri 10am-6pm (flexible, occasional
weekends)

Organization Summary: The mission of the Massachusetts Avenue Project
(MAP) is to nurture the growth of a diverse and equitable community
food
system to promote local economic opportunities, access to affordable
nutritious food and social change education. MAP�s Growing Green
Program is a year-round youth development initiative that involves
youth
in solving Buffalo�s challenges related to nutrition and healthy food
access. The program trains at-risk youth in urban agriculture, food
systems issues, microenterprise development and leadership.

Position Summary: The Farm to School Education Coordinator will have
primary responsibility for assisting the Communications Director with
efforts to introduce healthy food options and curriculum into the
Buffalo Public Schools. The Farm to School Education coordinator will
be the primary liason with schools to promote nutrition, agricultural
and environmental education to school age children.

Essential Functions:
� Promote Farm to School catalog offerings with partner schools
and others
� Coordinate school-based workshops and field trips
� Assist in facilitating school group visits to Growing Green
Urban Farm
� Draft monthly Farm to School newsletter
� Post weekly updates to Growing Green Blog
� Assess individual school capacity and vision for improving
healthy food access
� Explore options for the creation of related educational
activities including school gardens, cooking clubs,
afterschool
food related activities, salad bars, field trips to local
farms, etc.
� Assist in creating educational materials for use by school
cafeteria managers
� Assist in developing training materials, including curriculum
toolkit based on NYS Standards
� Participate in Farm to School planning meetings and evaluation
� Work with youth peer mentors to bridge afterschool training
components
� Develop communication and networking with local farmers
interested in supplying schools
� Assist in raising funds to expand farm to school initiatives
� Assist with other tasks as outlined by Communications Director

Other responsibilities:
� Maintain regular record keeping related to work
� Attend periodic staff, Board and community meetings as needed
� Participate in program evaluation

Proficiencies/ Critical Skills:
