Playing the guitar should be an enjoyable experience. This will make
you practice more and become better much more quickly. Acquaint
yourself with the guitar and guitar basics. Introduce yourself to your
string instrument and let the fun begin. Owning one is so important
that care must be taken in choosing a guitar.
An acoustic guitar is preferred for its simplicity suitable for a
beginner like you. There are no knobs or buttons or amplifiers to work
with. You can concentrate on basic guitar lessons with this type of
guitar. Although it is harder to play with, it is still the best
beginner guitar around. Never buy cheap guitars because they won't
last long. An electric guitar does not come cheap but it is generally
easier to play.
Rock and roll bass guitar is usually played by beginner bassists and
it sounds empty when not accompanied by a guitar or other instrument.
Decide whether to play an acoustic or electric guitar. Know their pros
and cons. Find a good teacher or the best instructional guide. Once a
guitar has been chosen, learning to play it will be lesson number two.
Pick your guitar and memorize its parts for easy and flexible finger
studies. Learn how to tune your instrument and then practice a
chromatic scale. You can then focus on exercises to strengthen your
fretting fingers. One of the best ways to coordinate your fingers is
to practice playing scales. They will help you build the strength and
the agility of your fingers needed to play the guitar well. Play the
scale slowly making sure each note rings clearly. The key here is
accuracy not speed.
There are major chords which sound happy and minor chords which sound
sad. Many songs are combination of these chords. One way of making a
song sound good is by adding an interesting strum to the music.
Strumming is striking the guitar strings to produce clear sounds.
Sometimes, a guitarist in his moments of tiredness, will stop
strumming. This is a big mistake because the flow of the music will be
disrupted. The trick is to keep the strumming motion going in the
picking hand. Do this by slightly lifting the hand away from the
guitar's body for a moment, on the downstroke of the third beat, so
the pick misses the strings. The upward/downward motion of the picking
hand should not change at all from the first pattern. Practice until
you attain your faster speed.
There will be some problems along the way but once you've gotten the
hang of it, you'll be sounding great. Try not to get frustrated. Be
patient and the next time you know, it will be like second nature to
you.
One of the best ways to go about finding the right sound for you is to
copy someone else's guitar sound. Make adjustments to it until you can
claim your rightful sound. Learn how to play the guitar and have some
fun.
