Hi everyone,
Does anyone own an adapter that supports rtl-sdr? (http://
www.reddit.com/r/RTLSDR), I have just ordered one from China. We can
make good use of the antenna in the hackspace.

Hi Fufu,

I don't have one but the videos that link to from Reddit look quite
cool. Might want to check with Guppy or the HAM radio club if they have
any adapters they could lend you.

Hi guys,
I got my SDR adapter. Now I need 1xMCX male adapter, coax with 50ohm
characteristic impedance, and 1xBNC male adapter (I think that's the
one we have in the hackspace). Before I start my shopping round, does
anyone have those at home? I don't mind paying.

Actually, could someone post a picture of the adapter itself please? I found some MCX-male adapters on eBay. I just need to confirm the type of adapter on the wall. I can't be bothered to visit the Hackspace. I will visit once I get my kit sorted.
Cheers,
Fufu

I took some photos of the connectors, they aren't paricularly good as my phone camera isn't great but it shuld give you what you needed. The words on the top are VHF and HF (left to right, same on both pictures)

Cheers Daniel!

I will order the kit maybe tomorrow. I need to get a second opinion from my radio friends.

We probably want to use the VHF antenna, since the device’s lowest working frequency is 64 Mhz.

Best wishes,

Fufu

The connector on the left (VHF) is an "N-Type" connector, and the antenna is likely tuned to 2m (possibly dual-band 2m/70cm) but for reception that's not important. The HF connector is an SO-239 (the female counterpart of the male PL-259). That antenna could be any of 6, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160m or any number of other bands, but again that's unimportant if all you're doing is receiving. If you're transmitting, then you will need the permission and supervision of the ham radio club.

I won’t be transmitting, since I don’t have the gear.

I do have an Intermediate license though, which means I can put up 50W, provided that I have the equipment. And yes, you are right, I still need the ham radio club’s permission, if I want to use their antenna to transmit.

Right, adapters ordered from China. They should arrive in 2 weeks. But then I have exams. I probably will come after the exams.
