Hi All
I was hoping to attend the next meeting, is it on for web 17th.
I am near the university, so If anyone is traveling from there I may be able to offer a lift.
I am familiar with guppies from years ago when all the computing and games console clubs where held there.
I am a Programmer for Audio Visual systems by trade, and do a bit of PIC programming as well.
I have a number of Pic development boards going cheap if anyone is interested, I will bring one along.
I will also bring an AV Controller (AMX NI-3100), these are cheap enough now to use on a hobby basis for home automation.
I see you are starting to do IR stuff with adriano, so I may be able to add some input.

If you are referring to the swarming robots' communications systems when you say "starting to do IR stuff", don't bother, we've pretty much given up on them now, it feels like that was a long time ago (because it was).

Nevertheless, we look forward to having another member, it must be close to that time of year again, I seem to remember that we had a sudden rush of one-day-members about this time last year. Lets hope this time it's more like a sudden rush of enthusiastic, regular members.

Yes, the next meeting should be on the 17th if enough people are able to attend. Just don't forget to respond to the email that goes around nearer the time to say that you will be coming so that we have a correct count. 

And in response to every other "I was, I am, I have, I will and I see", I say: "awesome". (Read that again carefully if it didn't make sense.)

If everyone that showed up this week also turns up next week, and then Matthew and Alex (the other two almost-regulars) both turn up and then you (John), a new member turns up, that would make an all time record of 10 people on one night. Matthew sometimes brings a friend (who's name I forget) that could make 11. If Greg or Tom manages to get back again that could potentially be 13 people. If everyone from the list who is inactive then showed up then we would have about... 70 people :D, if every one of them then found a friend to bring along then we could potentially have 140 people there.

But that's optimistic, My bet is that next week we have 6 or 7 people (and even that's optimistic).

Point is, we may be close to breaking the all time record of 8 people.

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Hi John,

Please do come along on Wed April 17th, 8pm at Guppy's!  PIC sounds good, that's right up our street, we do tinker with a bunch of microcontrollers including the obligatory Arduinos, mbeds, FPGAs and Launchpads.  Next week we hopefully might get to see Cameron's huge pit bull of a robot vehicle let loose for a wander, which should be worth seeing as it looks like it could comfortably tow a caravan.  In the classroom-like room we use at Guppy's there's power but no audio-visual facilities that I know of (we just usually bring our own laptops), so if you wanted to plug this AV controller into something you'd need to bring all necessary kit too.  As you're driving, Nunnery Lane car park is straight opposite Guppy's at £2 for evening parking, and Guppy's door charge for non-members is, I think, £3, he's also got a small bar and we usually assemble there after doors open at 8 before heading through to the classroom - further notes are here: http://york.hackspace.org.uk/wiki/First_Timers .
