Action Alert - Protect Public Access to BLM, Lake, and Yolo County Trails and Campgrounds

Dear fellow hikers,

Unfortunately, we have yet another attempt to turn a local public road private.  Rayhouse Road leads to several popular trailheads, including the Blue Ridge south, as well as the popular Buck Island campground.  We need your help to keep the road public!  If not, we effectively lose access to tens of thousands of acres of public land used for hiking, birding, hunting, camping, and other outdoors adventures.

Public comment in support of Rayhouse Road helps prove the road is needed under California Streets and Highways Code, so we need your comments to Yolo County Planning by the 25th of January.

Friends,     There is currently an application by Homestake Mining Company to abandon a portion of County Road 40 (Rayhouse Road) in Yolo County.  If this is allowed, we will lose access to the Fiske Creek and Blue Ridge southern trailheads, and the popular BLM campground at Buck Island would be closed.  Road 40 is a public road all the way from Highway 16 to Morgan Valley Road in Lake County.  If the road is abandoned, there will be no public access to the BLM and Yolo County public lands from the western side, effectively shutting off tens of thousands of acres and very popular areas used by hikers, birders, hunters, campers, anglers, and legal off-highway vehicle users.  Everyone will lose if this goes through!   For a more detailed summary of the issue, you can find Tuleyome's comment letter  here.
