The iCloud support has gone on soooo long that my two Yojimbo files are now WAY out of sync.  I really hope that when the solution is found, the update will make it easy to merge the two files.

I gave up when I was told by the developer that I didn't need to sync.

I still have a royal mess of duplicate data to extract because I beloved the original promises.

Yojimbo is dead for all practical purposes. Now it is only the loyal and locked in user-base left. I don't expect them to ever fix Yojimbo. Apple will be blamed, and the development officially terminated.

As "the developer" I have no idea what you're talking about.

That would only be the case if you can't launch it anymore.

Syncing via Dropbox works pretty well for me. I have two machines, home and work. On both run a cron jobs telling Yojimbo to quit at specific times. That is in the early morning on my home machine and shortly after I usually leave work on my work machine. I can't remember when I last hit the Yojimbo-seems-to-be-running-on-another-computer warning.

This company has such a good reputation that I'm willing to stick it out a little longer.  But it will be very hard to use if there's no easy way to merge my two files which have gotten so out of sync due to the delay.  I'm way past the dropbox solution since the files are so different now.

You do know you could have synced them by hand anywhere along the line? It's not that tough.

And if you've read the threads on this topic, I've at least twice pointed to a set of Applescripts I wrote that do the job reasonably well. They don't merge content of items, but they do export and import individual items, and you can then resolve the differences by hand yourself.

Not perfect, but it works for me. I haven't had MobileMe syncing working for a couple of years now, and I will use iCloud only as long as it is free. The instant they plan to charge me anything for the bare-bones (no pun intended) level of support, I'm dropping it completely and moving to a DropBox or other solution.

Export from the date you stopped the sync. Import into other file.

It wasn't you, it was Patrick Wolsey. He just dismissed a detailed description by telling me I didn't need to sync.

I'll just add that the thing that makes syncing by hand at all difficult is the preservation of tags and so forth, and the inability to import Passwords as objects (they are exported as text, and you can't import back into a Password). The scripts I mention take care of this problem for you, and also retain colour and, I think, other attributes that I don't recall offhand.

Two problems.  One, I will end up with hundreds of duplicate files.  Also, many files that started out as duplicates, are now different and need to be merged.

With respect, that is not what I said; rather, I was attempting to offer
advice about how to handle the specific situation which you had described,
and I'm sorry if that advice wasn't useful.

At the point iCloud support is ready, we will also have a solution in hand
for this issue.

Well, that is a problem. The scripts will put all the newly-imported objects into a new collection called '• Imported Items', so you will be able to distinguish the new ones from the old ones. But if you have made a lot of changes to the internals of the individual items, then you will have to figure out what to keep and what not to keep (presumably you will want the latest version, so you can distinguish them by date).

To be honest, I don't think that if you have, for example, two Notes that started out identical but now contain completely different text, that Yojimbo's sync mechanism is going to solve that problem for you. It seems to me that it will simply pick the most recent version. Someone can correct me on that if I'm wrong, but if I'm right, you've got a problem regardless.

+1000, several months ago support told me there is no way to merge databases. If they don't offer this option, I'm done with this product. In fact, I can't wait any longer either. Whomever wins this race to get an iCloud compatible database app working will get my money and support.

Was there a race? Must have missed the firing pistol ...

In any event, you will then not only have the chore of merging your databases (which you've allowed through your own neglect to fall out of sync) but then porting it to a new app. Good luck with that. I'm sure you'll be sorely missed.

I'm a fan of this company, but do I understand you correctly? You are rebuking a customer for neglecting to let the files fall out of sync, when it is taking the company this long to provide sync?  Something which Omnifocus, 1 Password, and others have had for ages?  If iCloud sync is so difficult, use another solution.
