Beginners question about Collections vs Tags

Hi all

I'm a new user of Yojimbo, been using it for about a month, and I'm
very happy with it. I am a little confused, though, about the use of
tags and custom collections and I was hoping other users could
enlighten me. My issue is this: When using the F8 import box I can't
choose to put the item in a custom collection, and when dragging to
the thingy on the side of the screen it lets me put it in a collection
but there's no way to tag the item. I end up with a custom collection
for the dragged items and a smart collection for my tags, and it seems
an unfortunate duplication to me. How does everyone else manage this
issue?

One thing that might is easier the "Untagged Items" smart
collection. Using this you can drag stuff into various
collections and then easily tag them when you feel like it.
"Recent Items" might also be useful.

Thanks for that. I've deleted my collections and switched on the
'untagged items' as you suggested, and that's really helped!!! I'm a
lot happier now, and I just have to remember to tag everything with
useful tags.

Can anyone tell me what the Unsorted Items collection is? It seems to
contain every item in my Library.

Before tags, the primary "sorting" UI was Collections. That group
shows any items that are not present in one or more Collections (which
can be thought of as iTunes Playlists; an alternate view on your one
Library).
