Hi,

after updating to Lion, Yojimbo takes a long time to start; it will
show a blank database window for several seconds, until it becomes
responsive and my data is being displayed in a window. Upon, Yojimbo
hangs for over a minute before it finally closes. Anyone else
experiencing these issues?

I just quit and restarted Yojimbo a couple of times and it started up immediately (this is using the latest Lion update, 10.7.1).

Is it taking up a ton of memory? Do you have an iPad?

I've found a real problem on Lion with a file
called .DeviceSyncEvents.queue (it's HIDDEN in Finder, so you have to
go to Terminal) that can take up huge amounts of space. I'll see
Yojimbo consuming between 1 and 4 GB of RAM, which causes super slow
startup and shutdown. If I delete the .DeviceSyncEvents.queue file
via the finder, memory use goes back to normal and all is OK.

You can verify by:

1) Quit Yojimbo
2) Open Terminal
3) cd to Yojimbo's application support directory
4) do 'ls -al' to view all files, e.g.:

Dodec:~ blloyd$ cd Library/Application\ Support/Yojimbo/
Dodec:Yojimbo blloyd$ ls -al
total 36744
drwxr-xr-x 8 blloyd staff 272 Aug 17 09:15 .
drwxrwxrwx@ 127 blloyd staff 4318 Aug 4 18:03 ..
-rw-r--r--@ 1 blloyd staff 369 Apr 29
16:20 .ContentIndex.version
-rw-r--r-- 1 blloyd staff 38919 Aug 17
09:15 .DeviceSyncEvents.queue
-rw-r--r--@ 1 blloyd staff 3112960 Aug 16 16:20
ContentIndex.skindex
-rw-r--r--@ 1 blloyd staff 15630336 Aug 16 20:15 Database.sqlite
-rw-r--r-- 1 blloyd staff 18624 Aug 16 20:15 State.plist
-rw-r--r-- 1 blloyd staff 189 Aug 17 09:15 SyncState.plist
Dodec:Yojimbo blloyd$

If you see that .DeviceSyncEvents.queue file and it's like 80 MB in
size, that's your problem.

I've reported this to BareBones but really gotten nowhere on it.
Hoping for a fix soon as it makes Yojimbo a real pain in the ass on
Lion. I have to delete the file every day or two. I had been using
the iPad version of YJ but stopped using it and unbound, but this
still happens.

I do not have an iPad, but deleting the .DeviceSyncEvents.queue file worked. Thanks for the help!

Hi,

I am seeing something similar, which manifested itself just when I tried to switch to (unsupported, I know) Dropbox syncing in order to switch over to iCloud. So I am running 10.7.2 and the latest YJ.

Startup times are slow but tolerable, but quit times can vary from a few seconds (still slower than before) to upwards of 20 minutes, with the machine essentially freezing due to memory usage by YJ of about 4GB, both real and virtual. I do sync with an iPad, but I don't presently have a .DeviceSyncEvents.queue file.

Any ideas?

Andrew
