Subject: Tagging issues
I upgraded to Lion a few days ago and now am having tagging issues in
Yojimbo. When I try to type a tag, it separates each letter and makes
it a separate tag. So, typing "Lion" as a tag would make 4 tags, "L"
"I" "O" "N." I have the latest version of Yojimbo. Anyone else have
this issue?

I had exactly that issue once under Snow Leopard -- once out of 40 or 50 successful new tag entries. I clicked in and out of Yojimbo and the problem went away. I have entered a couple of new tags under Lion without difficulty.

I have this happen all the time, way more than 1 out of 50. If I'm trying to enter a tag, whether it's new or an existing one, I'll sometimes get the first half of the word as one tag and the second half as another tag. I'd say it happens 5 or 10 times in 40 or 50 entries. I even opened a support ticket about a year and a half ago on this but I don't think they ever saw it happen (and that makes it pretty hard to fix). Not sure what OS I had a year ago January but I'm on Snow Leopard now and it still happens.

I have to regularly open the tag window to find those split tags. If you sort the tag window by count you'll get all your zero-instance tags at the bottom, and that's probably the only way to find them. I'll check this every few months and I'll find a small pile of these split tags there every time.

I'd say "drives me crazy" is a little strong, but "amusingly annoying" might describe it pretty accurately. :-)

I get this on low-performance and/or heavily loaded machines. It looks as if Yojimbo times out waiting for the next letter and decides to close the tag.

This - though not always. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be any particular reason. There's some sort of timeout going on I suspect but it's hard to solidly reproduce it. It's certainly not a new thing, I've complained about it before, and sometimes it really does make me swear an awful lot, particularly if I'm tagging things in the "untagged" collection and they then vanish having had junk tags applied to them.

Does it happen when you pause between typing letters? Does the problem go away if you type all the letters really fast? At the time when I encountered this issue, that's the impression I got.

Experiencing this, too. I'm not sure if it is a problem with Yojimbo. Lately I guessed, that it maybe some other tool that's grabbing the focus. Not sure if maybe Hazel oder Typinator may be the source. Don't know how to find out for sure, since it doesn't happen every time.

I don't have a definitive answer, but I had a similar issue in the
past that was associated with syncing while using Yojimbo.  If you're
up for an experiment, turn off Yojimbo (or all) syncing then see if
this behavior reoccurs.  As usual, YMMV.

Yes.  This is an issue with Yojimbo on Lion.  I reported it a while
back - hopefully a fix is forthcoming soon as it's rather
inconvenient.

I've only seen it on Lion; I never saw it personally on Snow Leopard.

Hasn't happened to me since the upgrade to Lion of my machines, which
includes a MacBook Air with only 2 GB of RAM.

I'm having this problem with Leopard too. Never experienced it with
Snow Leopard (though truthfully I didn't do much tagging). Weirdly,
typing slowly is what seems to work best for me.

I've been having this issue only after upgrading to Lion. In my case,
the individual letters turn into tags immediately, without any delay.
As soon as I type a letter it becomes a tag. I figured that maybe
TextExpander might be the culprit, but disabling it had no effect
whatsoever. Restarting Yojimbo always fixes the issue, but it returns
sooner or later.

I just updated to Yojimbo 3.0 today and also running Lion. I got hit
with the "every character is a tag" stuff. Kept retrying but always
the same. Quite the app and restarted it, things are OK for the
moment. As someone mentioned the low-powered or loaded machine, my MBP
was under a bit of a load as an iPad sync was re-optimizing hundreds
of photos. So maybe something to that theory. Sadly, this may not be
an easily reproduced issue for the folks at B.B.

I was able to reproduce this problem yesterday, but when I tried looking at it in the debugger, the symptoms went away.

However, that tells me something, so maybe I'll be able to find the problem.

I'm sorry for the severe inconvenience this causes, and wish I had a fix for everyone yesterday.

I've seen same issue. Usually, I delete the entry and create new and the problem goes away, then suddenly the first one entry will pop up. Deleting the second time works.

I understand there are known bugs in Lion regarding the Input menu and input methods. Would adding tags fall under this category?
