Hello Everyone,
I am sending this email in order to resume the activity within YCIG and preparing for the coming open consultations in two weeks and for IGF in bali.
As update, YCIG received several requests from people who want to join and they were added to the list, but the activity in last months remains low and we didn't really conduct a follow-up after last IGF in Baku. it is important to keep such interests and going beyond that. We have also several members who didn't attend IGF and not necessarily aware about dynamic coalition nature in IGF context.
For the last two year, I couldn't attend IGF while I handled the request to secretariat for having the meeting slot for the coalition and writing the needed reports for that (for this year I have to send bake report to book slot for the coalition) and this as informal coordinator .
while I am planning to attend IGF bali, I want to end this (long) transition phase and rejuvenate YCIG (I am 32 years old and enough old :)). I would like that new and old members of the coalition to take the leadership to define the strategy for coming years, work on bringing new members and ensure that youth cause evolve within IGF and beyond. we organized several youth and youth related issues workshops , other organizations did that too but it shouldn't be our solely goal and not create such workshop ghetto for youth. it is important to have young panelists in all workshops and main sessions. we wrote several statement in each IGF (except last year) and I hope that we can do more for this year edition. the main goal should be involve youth in the process as recognized group and participating in real issues and not be limited to to specific set of topics.
I suggest that everybody who want to volunteer to say so and then a ad-hoc team will be settled and assigned to handle the transition toward more sustainable structure, ensuring the continuity (maybe having a multistakeholder steering committee), to setup new strategy for the until 2014, preparing for IGf bali and also regional IGF and getting feedback from the coalition membership following an open and transparent process. I think that is important to have volunteers from all region and ensuring gender diversity. our main spaces are this mailing list and also the blog which need more up to date content.
I will help this group as much as I can but it has to take the lead of YCIG and bring it toa new stage. there are many new faces and there was a lot of energy in baku meeting,so it is time to work now.
Finally to clarify about last this year and last years coalition meetings:
- I am handling this year request and it will be my last action and from then it will be up to new leadership to manage that
- for last year, I prepared a draft agenda ,wrote the report and send the requestS to secretariat. there was possibility to change the time slot but the secretariat canceled such action because it was too late.
Make YCIG yours,
Best Regards,
Rafik
ps I will be glad to answer any question or inquiry
pps please share your plans for IGF bali, if you are organizing workshops etc to help for coordiantion
Think it's a good idea to have a committee/working group formed within the YCIG from different country to perhaps plan for the Bali meetings at least and perhaps on some strategic directions that we want to fight for as in Youth Engagement on IG.
We, the NetMIssion Ambassadors from Hong Kong, have been to the IGF since 2010 Egypt and organized a few Youth-related workshops before and in Baku as well. We are endeavored to advocate youth empowerment on IG so we would be very happy and eager to take part in such a working group or help out in the coordinator role if necessary.
Think it would be really helpful if Rafik you could let us know indeed who are in this googlegroup first so we can try to plan for more engagement and involve the organizations on the coalition.
Thank you very much.Best Regards,Yannis LiNetMission.AsiaDotAsia Organisation------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Address: 12F, Daily House, 35-37 Haiphong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

Hi Grace,
thanks for helping newcomers, the process in IGF and information are still no so friendly for non-insiders. and thanks for volunteering to join the group!
we don't have IGF only but there are also many regional and national IGf and some are already involving youth or training them like for Eurodig (new media summer school, @Martin you can tell us more about)and APrIGF (yigf @Yannis). I think that some members like Nadine in Germany , netmissions and others working on youth IGF too. it will be good to hear about all those initiatives and to share ideas and best practices.
but I do believe that at the end youth should be present in workshops and main sessions when possible AND it is possible and feasible.
Best,
Rafik
Although this is a little bit late for this thread, I want to thank Rafik again for his leadership, for bringing this group so far, and for initiating this transition. I also want to use this opportunity to offer my help and support. Although by UN standards, I still qualify as youth, I think much younger people should take the lead. So, with his permission, I will join Rafik in the elders advisory group of sorts.
Also, I want to note that I think what Hannah described about listing the young participants they bring as resource persons is really great. I would love to see more young people engage in the various workshops and not just in workshops labeled as youth workshops. With that, I would also like to see the young people themselves playing an active role in YCIG and established organizations that work with youth playing more of supportive and capacity building roles. That would be my two cents.
