Directory listing of files

I would like to enable a directory listing of files for any of the folders in the data directory so that if I were to say type in findingaids.hagley.org/xtf/ead, I could view a listing of all the EAD files in that folder from my browser. I have looked through the Tomcat directory on my server but could not find .htaccess even though my display is set to show hidden files. Is there another place I should be looking for this?
