How many maya users have ever heard of soft? Not a lot. New edu suites are now including soft which will help get exposure too. Not sure why everyone always goes so damn negative with this stuff.
More exposure = more knowing about it.

Are you used to any other seat other than the back?
It seems like a lot of people want all or nothing. Careful what you wish for.

Case in point, as I've gotten more and more concerned that XSI's days
could be numbered, I've started frantically trying to learn Maya.
(The Qt port of an already cross-platform app, while
non-cross-platform XSI remains in MainWin32.COM hell has made me
particularly jumpy). If we can trick enough people into thinking it's
the other way around, maybe the momentum will just magically shift as
the Maya/Max users start freaking out and learning XSI. Consider: if
someone tells you you're about to get punched in the nuts, even if you
know it's highly unlikely, you still keep your guard up. Er... down?
And if lying makes you feel bad, just tell yourself that the rumors
are based on your faith that Autodesk is a great company, which
nurtures all the technology it acquires and always makes decisions
with the users' best interest in mind. That way, at worst, we're only
lying to ourselves. (To be clear, that's meant as a slightly
distrustful challenge to AD, not an outright insult).
Long story short, does anyone have a crop duster we can use to drop
hotkey quick references on the big 5?

I know it sounds pathetic, but to me the possibility of canceling Softimage sounds like the possibility to canceling pencils.

Still: as long as there are things other apps do better than SI, they will
be favored.
Give us ICE Geometry, as soon as possible! Make it top priority.
Then there won't be many weak spots be left in SI. None, in fact.
The first and best way to convince is to offer a rock-solid product.
May AD marketing be ignorant - people will notice anyway if there's
something really interesting around.

With regarding the thread, guys it's just a suite and as Luc-Eric has said, it's the Maya (and imo, the Max users) that it's aimed at.
However, as Chinny has mentioned before, it's more likely that these users/studios will want to add Softimage to their pipeline, so the premium Suite sounds like a good option especially if you are already using some of the other packages, and if you're already a Suite customers and want to also use Soft, then it's a no brainer.

But that's just it, they didn't redevelop matchmover, just bought it and renamed it Maya Live.

The latest kick in the teeth then - softimage gets bundled with the premium editions of the max and maya creative suites. I can see that it will be a good way for mainly max or maya studios to get their hands on SI to play with it a bit, but can't help feel that their positioning of SI makes it more difficult to continue to run it as the main application in a studio, and makes it less attractive to those new to 3d. Why would any student want to learn SI when Autodesk makes it abundantly clear that maya or max are the preferred options.
The tweet does suggest a silver lining though - lagoa to be bundled with softimage? Hope so :)
Sorry about the rant, just had to get it off me chest!

So, what's the Softimage Entertainment Creation Suite? I can see it in my subscription center when I try to select my product in one of the numerous forms. Did I miss something?

Does rather feel like being the last one to get picked last when your mates are choosing footy teams....
I'm sure there's a marvellous reason why Illuminate, Inventor, Revit Architecture and Civil 3D take a higher promotional place than Softimage on Autodesks front page. I'm sure ICE will ensure the survival of Soft (thank goodness it was in there).

My caches go screwy on the farm, rendering nothing at all, or the cloud
disappears entirely from frame to frame. I tried using different sim modes,
caching them within the environment settings and locking the cache and also
plotting the geo-cache and using a cache on file node in an empty tree. I have
also found that that the attribute node in the render tree to apply the color to
the instances doesn't seem to be working either. I get black frames or
instances that haven't inherited the attribute color that works fine from my
preview.
Of course I haven't even mentioned that the entire particle cloud blinks on and
off periodically... Even locally.
Any tips?
Thanks,
Eric

I guess AD maybe thinks that :
1/ it is not making enough money on Soft to justify bundles/PR etc...
2/ it does not have a top sales guy behind it.
3/ or Soft is making enough money by itself without the need of PR push.
I'd go for 1 or 2 unfortunately.

What would be nice is;
If AD were to treat us, the paying, subscribed customers, like adults….and let us know what the score is….
This list is where the user-base is, the people on this list LOVE their choice of software, and this list is the perfect conduit for the dissemination of FACTS from AD straight to us users….
Come on AD, let’s have some rumour control, we KNOW you’re reading this!

Are there that many studios that run solely on maya and nothing else? I didn't think that was possible. Thought most places needed other apps that are included in the suites as well.
