Very revealing of Autodesk thinking:

1st - They thought Softimage could be managed on a part time basis.

2nd - Considering the video was recorded 2 months ago, you'd think the new guy would've introduced himself by now.

So people still think there is a future with Softimage?

Siggraph this year will be interesting. I'm wondering if Softimage will be put in the same corner as MatchMover and Composite.

Autodesk tries to assure us, but they don't show it. Besides the devs and QA, does Autodesk actually care at all?

Autodesk? Hello??

He did a shy introduction on the unofficial Si-Community(.com).

1) I don't think it was like that. Considering Cory was already PM on other things, he was probably handling things for the time being before someone was appointed to properly handle the day to day stuff.

2) Both Cory and Daniel were present for customer meetings and at the London usergroup meeting back in January, where they made explanations of their roles and structure.

hmm, i dont think so. i expressed concern directly to him and he assured that he could handle all of the products including softimage. mostly by saying the PM was hands off and the real work is done by others. i believe it was on his area blog and also 3dpro.

Yes I recall, that was back in Sept of last year. Cory also used to handle Motionbuilder, but those duties (on a day to day basis) have also been handed over.
I don’t believe though, as Matt suggested the intention was to manage Softimage on a part time basis.
This is all kinda old news now though, no need to read too much into it. ☺

1) Mostly everything in AD M&E except for the archeological MAX and the golden child Maya was managed part time to be honest, in the end, at least, they decided to have a couple dedicated figures for Soft. Good or bad the message is, I haven't decided myself, but it's not atypical even for non-dismissed products

2) He did introduce himself here and there, and he was introduced to clients when Cory handed over management (I had a couple phone calls with them in example), but Soft lacks the front-end of blogs and long standing reps in AD Maya and Max get. Other than those, it's always hard to find any news on this kind of moves.

Soft is sort of odd in the AD stable right now.
It has one of the more open and communicative dev teams here, compared to other products, and a correspondingly stealthy and quiet management/design set of roles.

I'm not entirely sure of what this represents.

For the most part it represents uncertainty. To me this is never a good thing when you are planning long term. As much as I love Softimage (and luckily for education its tops ) if I was making this purely as a long term business investment (ie say Starting my own little company) It would not be my first choice because I am just not comfortable with the haphazard and to me evasive manner in which it is managed.  The world economy is just not in a good space right now and if your betting the farm, would you do it on the back of another companies part time thing ?

I was optimistic when Dan introduced himself on Si Community but the vast silence since then has pretty much killed that enthusiasm. Yes it is great to have the developers active here *waves SVN / Mercurial integration Cough! cough! ;) * However its more then just that which is required.
