Subject: WHATTA HELL???????

Can anybody tell me what can I do, if I can't load my scenes saved
previously and loaded perfectly this before?????? Suddenly Softimage
crashes on my scenes, and it seems that I lost whole 3 days of job.
However, there were no crashes, and no issues at all...What the hell is
going on????????

Cheers

This may not be what you are looking for but, after you have tried
everything, you could try to open it with "Disable all geometry operators
on load" checked and/or some other options in the Scene Debugging tab.

If the scene is simple there may be some data you can recover.

-Try merging the scene into a new scene
- try load in a blank softimage and disabling all the viewports and then
load your scene
-have one viewport expanded and viewing the explorer window and then load
your scene

thats all I can think of off the top of my head, hope one works

You tried this scene on another machine?  Not being able to load the previous autosaves sounds dodgy - sounds to me like a runonce or prefs replacement is needed - but quicker to test by loading on another machine.

 Hi,
Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding the full SPDL syntax
somewhere? I could have sworn it was in the docs but I can't find it any more.
Has it been taken out?

I found a bit of reference material on the Softimage Wiki, but it seems
incomplete.

Thanks,
Andy

 Hi Stephen,
Thanks for your help. Sure, I understand it was deprecated. Seeing as XSI still
relies on a lot of stuff that uses SPDLs, surely the reference material should
be kept until the SPDL reliance is removed? Sometimes we need to get under the
hood on some of this stuff.

I'll see if I can find the old chm.

This might be a long shot but try opening your scene's .scntoc file in a
text editor.  You may be able to find something in there that you can alter
or get rid of to help open your scene.

One case in which this worked for me was when I had about 30+
multi-resolution reference models in one scene and I accidentally saved and
closed the scene while all the models were set to their highest res.
Opening the scntoc file allowed me to set the model res all back to their
lowest resolution and after that I was able to open the scene.

I've also had the case of a buggy rig update causing a scene load to fail
where it didn't use to. *shudder*

Thanks for all the comments and help!

I managed to find an older crashsave, and I recovered the scene from it. I had Species rig in the scene, but it was working just fine, yet it removed it. I also had installed Move Normal prior to the disaster, so I removed it also. The scene was not opening any on our computers.

I tend to believe what our artists say, SI 2013 line is cursed...they returned to 2012 SAP, and I am the sole 2013 user...

Cheers

Szabolcs
