Not sure if it's just something at this studio or what, but we all seem to have the same issue.

Have you disabled image clips effects? If no, XSI is loading the
image and not mental ray. What is the bit depth? You really didn't
give any information about this problem.

"The Password does not comply with Autodesk Password policies"
this is really stupid , my password attempts are all 8 - 12 characters
long , have a Capital and numeric character AND it still doesnt work.
what gives?

Subject: Re: Do you have 2010 in you subscription downloads?
The weird part is that I couldn't enter a valid product key during the
initial installation, even though I have two to choose from, the Next
button would just say gray, so I entered 00000 to move on. And now
that I've edited setenv like you say, =Network and =@server;, I get
"There is no interactive network license available to run Softimage".
So do I need to activate something? 7.5 runs fine on 7 seats and 20
nodes with the same license server.
You have to use your 2010 serial number to get your 2010 license.
http://xsisupport.wordpress.com/tag/softimage-2010/
Also, just in case, I have to ask whether in setenv.bat, when you entered "@server;" did you have replace "server" with the hostname or IP address of your license server?
I also checked out that site, but the problem is that it says my
product key is invalid, I don't know what to do about that, it's the
same key stated in the page guided to by the link you provided. Maybe
we don't have 2010 licenses yet, but we do have full subscription. I
sent a request for this through the subscription site, maybe just a
matter of waiting a bit.
Send me your serial number off-list, and I will look it up.
Thanks
Hmm, I was able to enter a name for the license server during installation.
I think it is not possible if you enter 00000000 as product key and serial.
But my problem at the moment is that my license request form has not listed Softimage 2010 yet... :-(

00000 installs 2010 in Trial mode
590B1 installs Softimage 2010, and you can choose Standalone or Network licensing
591B1 installs Advanced, which is network license only
2010 was not supposed to be available yet, so I don't think that all the customer accounts are updated yet.

Tried to "activate" 2010 after installation (64-bit, on Vista, 590B1,
standalone licence), and got an error "The serial number you entered
is not valid for the product you are trying to activate. Try again.
(Error 123)", even though the serial number shown IS the correct
number.
Tried to use the "Customer Service Request", but it wants the
"Application Key", which is says is "...On the Registration-Activation
page, click Activate. The application key is displayed at the top of
the page." But there's nothing called "Application Key" there to be
seen.
So I'm stuck... I can't activate it, and can't quite get help activating it. :)
Sure are a lot of numbers... serial number, previous version serial
number, Host ID, Product Key, Request Code... And it keeps saying
that for Subscription Customers, they have to enter their "Group ID".
But I don't have a Group ID on my subscription contract page -- it's
just blank.
I imagine I'll figure it all out eventually, or find some forum post
that explains what's amiss, but if anyone might have a hint, or a link
to a hint, I'd sure appreciate it.

I understand now that I'm supposed to use the "register once" process,
but that winds up asking me for a "server 1 host name" and a "host
ID". After reading the autodesk licensing and registration, and
register once, FAQ .pdfs, I find that neither is mentioned at all.
So, I read on CGTalk that the Host ID is the same as the "mac address"
or "physical address". Ok, that, along with my computer "host name"
seemed to work, and RegisterOnce coughed up a "License file" which is
supposed to be saved in the "Program Files\Autodesk License
Manager\License folder", which I find I do not have. Tried creating
one and saving the file there, but when I start 2010, it just gives
the 'activate or run in 30-day trial' box, and then, when I run in
trial mode, it pops up an error about a missing windows component it
needs called "flash.ocx" which is "no longer included in this version
of Windows". (Although, in subsequent starts, that error does not
reappear.)
Found the bit on the eX-SI Support blog about installing the *network"
license file using LMTools, but there's nothing about installing the
*standalone* license file, and there's no program called LMTools under
Autodesk/...
Anyone have any insight into where to stick that license file, or how
to install the standalone license?
I've only been at this about 4 hours now, and have consumed two beers,
so all in all, not having too bad a time. :)
You can download the NLM here:
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS13737466
-OR-
If you install Softimage 2010 from the download, the installer for the Network License Manager (NLM aka LMTOOLS) is put in the C:\Autodesk folder:
C:\Autodesk\Softimage_2010_English_Japanese_Win_32bit\NLM_x86.msi
C:\Autodesk\Softimage_2010_English_Japanese_Win_64bit\NLM_x64.msi
-OR-
If you install from the DVD, there is an Install License Server button on the AUTORUN dialog box.
This KB article is for 7.5, but for the most part it applies to 2010:

Just wanted to say thanks to Luc-Eric R. and especially Stephen B. for
their help. Stephan provided the final piece of the puzzle where,
under Vista, the host name needed to be a numeric IP address rather
than the computer name. And also that a patch to the license manager
was available which would allow use of the computer name (in case the
IP was dynamic, for example):
