Dear XMPie support:

Ever since we've updated our XMPie to (uDirect 4.6.2), we are running
into a font problem on the way into indd documents with XMPie
attached. When we open a file with placed content objects (including
an Intelligent Mail Barcode), InDesign stops us and asks for a font we
have placed that is similar in name but with "bold condensed" at the
end. No matter what the font is assigned to placed content
objects....Clarendon light or Adobe Garamond Pro, etc., it asks for
the "bold condensed" version. We didn't place these "bold condensed"
version of the fonts. We don't have those fonts and whenever we
change those content objects back to their original font, save the
document, it won't take. It asks for the "bold condensed" version of
the font on the way in to the document again.

Do you have any idea what this is?

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Betsy Craig

Do the requested fonts show up when you select Type > Find Font ... ?

I have this happen sometimes. Usually there's an empty line in a text
box, or some other object that contains that font. I just open the
Find Font dialog and replace it globally there.

What build is your v4.6.2? There is a patch which takes v4.6.2 to
build 4211, which should fix this issue. Please contact your XMPie
supplier or support to get this patch. BTW - this is a false message
anyhow. The job should be ok regardless of the warning message.

BTW - I notice you start your post with "Dear XMPie Support" - I
should mention that this is a community of XMPie users, and while some
XMPie support, QA and R&D staff keep a watch here, it is not an
official XMPie site...

Hi youston:

Yes and No. While in an ID document the fonts show up, but with brackets
around the [bold condensed] part of the font listing....which means it's not
loaded on that PCs C:drive. The problem is this font wasn't ever placed in
the document. We've been in and out of these documents for months and are
familiar with what fonts are placed...but for some reason ID is asking for
this erroneous font.

You are right...we WILL click Find Font and it DOES lead us to some empty
space at the end of a couple of lines in an address block...including the
barcode line. We find those areas and change them to the font they are
supposed to be, save and stay in the document. We'll click to go to the
next record in the data file were attached to...and the stupid font changes
back. We don't even leave the document and it hasn't taken where we just
changed it.

It's a mystery! We're playing around with "Global Caching" and "Clear
Global Caching" right now and seeing if we utilize that, perhaps we won't
get the weird font requests.

Thanks a lot for responding to my post. It's greatly appreciated.

Betsy :-)

Betsy, try exporting to IDML or INX and reopening. You'll have to
reset all your content objects but that way you are turning it back
into a static INDD document with no XMPie link. You should then be
able to find and remove the errant font style. Check all of your
styles as well as the Find Font dialog because if you have a char or
para style that is asking for a non-existent weight it won't appear in
Find Font (on CS3 at least). Other things to check are the default
font setting - create a new empty text box and see what is applied
here as sometimes this retains strange/old styles. Presumably you have
checked there are no hidden text boxes or pasteboard text boxes?

I have experienced this before and it is very irritating, good luck

Couldn't agree more Steve - whilst this community helps a lot of
people, it remains an unofficial group and is powered by the
generosity of its participants. To that end, you should not rely 100%
on the group if you have a mission critical support question. That
being said, I encourage you to continue posting questions to this
group as good questions with good answers make this group what it is.

Cheers, Tim

Too bad: I thought it was also powered by the generosity of its
donators!

Bill, I really wish it were - perhaps we should setup a http://pledgie.com
;-)

Hi couch:

Yes...I copied the message I put on XMPie's support site directly into the
XMPie googlegroups. I guess I should have deleted the opening line. Sorry
about that. Thanks for the correction.

Of course you mean:
http://pledgie.com/donate.aspx?RID={GoogleAccountName}

None of the group members would ever donate on a plain old static
site--it would go against our philosophies.
