Hello everybody,

I'm having a recurring problem each time I try to set up a new site.
When it's time to connect to newly created port from Dreamweaver I
keep getting this error: [uCreateXM] Unable to connect to server. This
can happen both on the server and on the desktop machine I use to
develop. It drives me crazy and I usually have to invest considerable
amounts of time to correct the situation. Does somebody else have this
kind of trouble. I use version 4.5.2 of personal effect. Any insights
are appreciated.

Yes, I had this problem, regularly. With this and previous versions.
My XMPie Support Portal Profile is full of it. There have been a
variety of solutions but the latest solution seems to be the most
consistent - It has (in my case) to do with the connection string
needing to identify the SQL server port (1433) explicitly (I don't know
why).

I've posted the support cases for these issues on my blog so that you
can sift through it if you have to:
http://jetlinelouis.spaces.live.com/?_c02_vws=1 - feel free to have a
look, maybe it helps?

Do you use the RURL Wizard?
Despite I like creating new XMPie sites with the "legacy
workflow" (everything done manually), I know by experience that it is
a little hard, as all these steps must be stictly processed, in the
specified order.
The huge advantage of the RURL Wizard is that most (or all) of the
things will be automated for you.
Even though you cannot find a template whose look-and-feel fits your
needs, I would suggest you to use the RURL Wizard, to build the
backbone of the site, then to start each page design from scratch if
you prefer.
Once you like the RURL Wizard, you can design your own templates.

The RURL wizard is a great help for me too but in one of the cases in my blog i used it to get the site created, intending to download the ste and modify it from there in dream weaver.  I got the ste onto my sytem and imported into dream weaver, and then attempted to get (download) all the files for local editing. Thats when dreamweaver failed its connect.

Thanks Bill.
Yes, I use the RURL Wizard.
The settings tell me about a succeeded connection to the file system.
I just wanted to set up a demo for a personalized illustrator drawing.
So I chose to use the wizard to quickly create a self registration
site from the wizard. Instead I ended up wasting a complete afternoon
in unproductive web.config recreation over and over again.
I even tried working directly on the server, but there I can't connect
either, even after editing the site with the wizard and replacing the
content of the site, or redoing the web.config ad nauseum.
Really don'y know what else to do.
