WC Mosquitoes
Walton County Health Department Administrator, Holly B. Holt announced the Florida Department of Health (DOH) has issued a mosquito-borne illness alert for Walton County. A second human case of West Nile Virus has been confirmed. The possibility that other individuals may become infected with the virus is extremely high. Walton County has been under a Mosquito-Borne Illness Advisory since July 2012 due to increased sentinel chickens testing positive for EEE/West Nile Virus. North Walton County Mosquito Control and South Walton Mosquito Control are continuing to spray and the health department encourages the public to continue to take precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.
OCSO Arrest Sex Charges
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges of sexual battery on a victim over the age of twelve and contributing to the delinquency of a minor against Crestview resident Lyle Franklin Forrest Jr. The 39-year old Forrest was arrested October 8th in connection with the sexual molestation of a teenage girl. The teen says prior to the sexual activity he would give her alcoholic beverages, marijuana, or illegal pills. The victim told Investigator Ralph Garrett the sexual batteries began when she was 14 years of age and continued until she was 17. Forrest meanwhile said it could have happened and he didn’t remember it, citing his use of alcohol and Xanax.

HWY 90 Update
After a recent story about the continuing work on Highway 90, a listener asked about specific segments and we asked about the 331 north intersection. The FDOT District Three Office in Chipley says the area in question is part of the U.S 90 resurfacing project which extends from the Okaloosa County line to Country Club Drive. C. W. Roberts is the Contractor on this project. Crews are in the process of laying the final layer of asphalt on that section of roadway and should be complete, weather permitting, by the end of October. The Project Administrator has been contacted and has indicated someone will look into the issue to see if something can done to help alleviate the joint problem on a temporary basis until the friction course is laid at the location. The section near the Courthouse is getting massive underground work on the drainage. Once the work is done the roadway will be resurfaced and new markings placed. The work taking place at the intersection of U.S 90 and U.S 331 N is in association with the extension of the northbound turn lane off U.S. 90 on to US 331. Plans also call for a new signal to be installed at the intersection.

Weekend Accidents
An accident on State Road 79 in Washington County took the life of a Newton Alabama man and sent his bike’s passenger to the hospital with serious injuries. The FHP report the Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 29-year-old Robert Iddings, a Chevy Blazer driven by 19-year-old Brianna Mazzullo of Ponce de Leon and a Dodge Ram driven by 30-year-old Steven Campbell of Vernon were all southbound on State Road 79. The Blazer slowed for a left turn onto Holmes Valley Road, and stopped in the southbound lane waiting for northbound traffic to clear before attempting the left turn. The Harley’s rider failed to see the vehicle standing in the lane, and steered to the right in an effort to miss the blazer. The bike struck the right rear corner of the Blazer with it's front end immediately ejecting both
driver and passenger from the motorcycle. The Dodge was following the bike and steered to the right in an effort to avoid colliding with it and the Blazer. The truck struck the bike after it had ejected both rider and passenger and had fallen onto its right side. The driver of the Harley was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Alcohol tests and charges are pending.
An accident in Walton County at Moll Drive resulted in a crash, but no injuries. A 2010 International driven by Coy Suprise of Santa Rosa Beach was stopped in the left turning lane from 98 onto Moll Drive. A Nissan driven by 42-year-old Daniel Robertson was westbound on 98. A Ford F-150, driven by 29-year-old Sean Miller of Santa Rosa Beach was stopped on the paved portion of the median. The first vehicle was attempting to reenter the westbound lanes and make a right turn onto Church Street. The FHP says the first driver failed to see the second vehicle, they crashed and began to rotate, with the second vehicle striking the third.
And it was a vehicle versus a Winn Dixie early Sunday morning. Around 2:15 a 2009 Dodge car, driven by 27-year-old Peter Dyer of Destin was westbound on U.S. 98 in the inside lane at a high rate of speed and failed to maintain at a curve. The car travelled across the center median and the eastbound lanes and onto the eastbound shoulder, through shrubbery, through the parking lot and struck the front of the Winn Dixie. The car came to a rest almost completely inside the store. The driver was taken to Sacred Heart via Air Ambulance. Alcohol tests are pending. Charges are pending blood tests.
