Wanted Man Found

A man wanted in Lewis County Kentucky for 1st degree rape of a child under 12 years old and 1st degree sodomy of a child under 12 years old has been located and arrested by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities report 28-year old James Michael Savoie had moved to the Destin area and was using a stolen and assumed identity of a man from Tennessee while working
at a Destin business.

Deputies with the OCSO Special Investigations Section tracked Savoie Wednesday afternoon to the Motel 6 on Harbor Boulevard in Destin. They forced entry after Savoie refused to open the door. Savoie then refused orders to get on the ground so he was forced to the ground and secured in handcuffs.

Savoie was taken to the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview where he is being held without bond as he awaits extradition to Kentucky.

Sentencing Follow-Up

Here is a sentencing follow-up to previous story we reported. William Eddins, State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit, says Christopher Terrell was sentenced to 18 years in the Department of Corrections after his plea to Vehicular Homicide in the November 2011 death of Sean Markham.

In the early morning hours of November 3, 2011, the Defendant, who was under a court order to stay away from Bryson after having pled guilty to a domestic violence incident on October 18, 2011, was waiting in the parking lot of Helen Back near Ms. Bryson’s car.

Bryson arrived at Helen Back with Markham and upon seeing the Defendant, she ducked in Markham’s car to hide. The Defendant yelled at Markham and Markham drove away. The Defendant got into his vehicle and chased Markham down Okaloosa Island, over the Brooks Bridge and into downtown Fort Walton reaching speeds of 98 mph.

Coming up on traffic in front of the Fort Walton Beach Library, Markham applied his brakes and slowed, the Defendant did not. The Defendant hit the rear of Markham’s vehicle sending Mr. Markham’s car crashing into two trees and rolling back into the westbound lanes. Markham was ejected from the car. Markham succumbed to his injuries on November 16, 2011. Taryn Bryson suffered minor injuries and the Defendant was not injured in the accident.

The Defendant will serve 15 years for Markham’s death followed by three years for Aggravated Stalking and Reckless Driving and his license will be permanently revoked.  The case was investigated by the Fort Walton Beach Police Department and prosecuted by Angela Mason.
