Boating Accident Fatality

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered the body of a 20-year-old Airman Sunday morning from the waters of Santa Rosa Sound in Mary Esther. Initial reports indicate the OCSO received a 9-1-1 call around 3:13 a.m. after someone spotted a person trying to flag down cars on Miracle Strip Parkway. The man said he’s been in a boating accident and didn’t know if his two friends were okay. He swam to shore to get a phone. EMS, firefighters, the Coast Guard and the OCSO Dive Team responded. One other boater was located unharmed. Divers however found the body of the third person underwater offshore of Cedar Condominiums around 7:44 a.m. Sunday. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission will investigate the cause of the boating accident.

C-View PD Car In Accident

A Crestview Police vehicle was properly parked, on the inside lane of southbound State Road 85, due to a traffic crash. The cop car had its emergency lights activated and was unoccupied, facing south. A 2006 Volkswagen, driven by 25-year-old David Mark Mosher of Santa Rosa Beach, was traveling south and the front struck the rear of the patrol car. Mosher was transported to Twin Cities Hospital for minor injuries then released and placed under arrest for DUI. He is also charged with Careless Driving and Damaged Property.

North Okaloosa Accident

A car was traveling east on County Road 180 in north Okaloosa County. As it entered a sharp curve to the left (north) the vehicle drove onto the southern  shoulder along eastbound County Road 180. The vehicle rotated counterclockwise as it continued on the southern shoulder, then the passenger side struck three trees, bringing it to a final rest at the point of impact with the third tree. The driver, 22-year-old Andrew Butts of Alabama and his passenger suffered injuries.

The 64-year old victim of the crime told deputies he was sitting inside his home when three assailants came in the back door around 1:30 a.m. He says one of the individuals struck him in the face several times with a closed fist as they demanded money.
