WCSO Embezzlement Arrest
Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) investigators began an extensive 6 month investigation into an allegation that 39-year-old Sharon Lynn Cassity, of Santa Rosa Beach, had embezzled money from the company she worked for, Mathews Development Company, from September 2007 to February 2012.
Investigators discovered during the course of the investigation that Cassity had embezzled over $56,000 and had altered company records on the victim’s computer. Cassity was employed as the clerk of corporations during the time of the fraudulent activities and it was her duty to make financial entries into the corporate books.
Cassity turned herself into the Walton County Sheriff’s Office on November 1, 2012. She was charged with Grand Theft over $20,000 and Embezzlement by Making False Entry in Corporate Books. Cassity was given a $25,000 bond.

Accident In Liberty
A morning accident sent several to the hospital, one via air ambulance and shut down part of U.S. 331. Just before 6:30am Wednesday morning, a 2006 Toyota Odessy, driven by 75-year-old Herman Barnes of Panama City, was northbound on 331 in the Liberty Community. A 1996 Pickup, driven by Roger Daughtry, of DeFuniak Springs, was southbound on 331. An unoccupied CHELCO truck was properly parked in the J and K Groceries parking lot facing south, the former Jones Store.
The FHP says the driver of the Toyota was attempting to turn left into the parking lot and failed to see the pickup approaching. The front of the Toyota was struck by the left front of the pickup. After this impact, the right rear side of the pickup struck the left side of the CHELCO truck.
Liberty Volunteer Fire Department responded and heavy equipment was used to extract the driver from one of the vehicles. The morning traffic had to be rerouted. Both drivers were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with serious injuries.
Seat belts were in use. The first driver was charged with violation of Right of Way and turning left in front of approaching traffic.

Man Found Hiding In Truck
A search for a man who ran while deputies were investigating a “suspicious activity” call ended when two Laurel Hill residents located him hiding inside their pickup truck and held him at gunpoint until deputies arrived.
Sgt. Mark Raiche was responding to the call on West Plympton Road around 2:15 Tuesday afternoon when he saw a man later identified as 31-year-old Jacy Dane McCuiston. While trying to make contact with McCuiston about his presence outside the home, McCuiston gave a fake name, and took off running. Deputies learned McCuiston had outstanding felony warrants for burglary, grand theft, and grand theft of a firearm.
An extensive search was conducted that included the use of tracking dogs from Okaloosa Correctional Institution. However around 9 o’clock p.m., deputies responded to a call of a suspicious person on Harper Road in Laurel Hill. A homeowner says she was aware there was a fugitive at large in the area. She went out to check on her vehicles and saw a man inside her truck. She and her husband retrieved guns and when the man got
out of the truck and came towards them, ordered him to stop. They held him there until deputies got on scene to take him into custody.
In addition to the outstanding warrants, McCuiston, (no known home address), is now also charged with trespassing, resisting arrest without violence, and providing a false name.
