*At around 1 pm Thursday afternoon, Walton County Sheriff’s Office received
a call from staff at South Walton High School stating a male subject had
made a statement he heard there was a bomb at the school that was going to
go off. He then ran off. Deputies arrived in the area and began the search
for the subject. They located him and he was detained for questioning.
In the meantime, the school was evacuated and placed on lockdown. Parents
are picking up students. For those who are wanting to pick up their
children they will need to use entrance off of JD Miller Road. School buses
will not leave until they are all checked. The subject was not a current
student at the school. Deputies on scene are waiting for bomb squad from
Bay County to arrive. Eglin bomb squad is also assisting.*
