Guys/Gals,

Quick question: I see many hail-damaged vehicles going through the
MPIC auctions recently... and was wondering: Can one buy these
vehicles and register them? Or must you actually repair the dimples in
the sheet metal? I've seen a 2009 Yaris written off due to hail - and
looking at the car's photos it actually isn't that bad at all.

Thanks!

I don't think it's considered a "safety" issue, but if you're planning
to get the dents fixed, this is the best guy in town - maybe even the
province-

He does amazing repairs.

This indicates that you don't have to repair it as long as it's road-worthy
(safety) and has been sold as "salvageable."

http://www.mpi.mb.ca/english/claims/write-offs/driveable.html

It also says "damage that only affects its appearance-other than from a
collision-you won't have to do anything special to keep driving it."

The phone #'s at the bottom of the page too.

Hail damaged vehicles are exempt from the body integrity certificate, and
the hail marks, if not fixed, of course are taken into account in reducing
the value of a future claim, say for an accident or theft write-off.
Other than knowing that, the only other thing you need to know is the
vehicle does still have to pass a safety before registration.
