SUBJECT:  PIKES PEAK LINE DANCE…OR BUST! 10TH ANNIVERSARY, JULY 9-11, 2010, COLORADO SPRINGS

Pikes Peak Line Dance…or Bust! is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and you won’t want to miss out on a great weekend with our terrific staff that includes John Robinson, Jo Thompson Szymanski, Doug & Jackie Miranda, plus special guest instructors Ruben Luna, Juliet Hauser, and guest DJ Jill Babinec!  [We also have two very special surprise guests who will be joining us as attendees (instructors from the national circuit that you all know) but they want to keep it a surprise for now from our instructor staff!]

This year, we will be having a “pre-party” at Copperhead Road Country Nightclub on Thursday night, July 8th, and if you are in town early please feel free to join us from 6:30-9 pm at the club.  The address is 3330 N. Academy Blvd, and phone number is 719-659-2301.  Otherwise, we will see you in the main ballroom at the hotel for the Friday night Welcome Back Party, starting at 7 pm, which will include preview demos of the weekend lessons by the instructors.

Details and registration forms (along with a link to The Academy Hotel to make your reservation) are on our web site at http://home.earthlink.net/~theherberts  or you can send us an email at thehe...@earthlink.net or give us a call at (719) 277-7253.

We hope you will plan to join us in Colorado Springs in July for some “Dancin’ With Altitude!” and our 10th Anniversary!

subject: Dancing with Ginger at the Mill, Manchester NH
from: Ginger Kozlowski,
aplj...@gmail.com

On Thursday, June 24, at 7 p.m., I will have a special request workshop at the Mill A-Round Dance Center, 250 Commercial St., Manchester, NH. Just $8! I will teach two to three easy dances and two intermediate dances that night, but it's up to you to pick what I will teach. Send your teach requests to me now at aplj...@gmail.com, then come for the evening and get caught up on the dances you've been wanting to learn!

My next beginner session starts July 1. See my web site, www.linedancemax.com, for the full lineup of lessons. Rather than a summer session that builds skills each week, each week will be self-contained, with a newbie-level lesson, a beginner lesson and an intermediate lesson, with plenty of open dancing till 10 p.m. Warmups are at 6:30, lessons start at 7 p.m. each Thursday thorugh the summer at the Mill.

SUBJECT:  RESPONSE ABOUT DANCES TO BEACH MUSIC FOR SUSAN WEBB

FROM:  Bonnie Mathews (linedan...@nc.rr.com)

A very easy beginner dance I’ve used is East Coast Shakin’ (Beth Carole Beach) to Shakin’ the Shake by the Fantastic Shakers.    It was taught at The Marathon in the beginner sessions this year.   Stepsheet link:  http://www.jgmarathon.com/scripts/EastCoastShakin.pdf

A step up from there is Hot Chocolate by Chris Wells to It Started With a Kiss by Hot Chocolate.  It’s on kickit.

Both of those dances would work for folks with little to no line dance experience.

SUBJECT:  WHAT A WONDERFUL SURPRISE
FROM:
MADAME...@RCN.COM

This past Saturday afternoon and evening I attended a wonderful venue,
The Outer Rim at the Irish Center in Long Island City, N.Y.
Jane O'Brian and Rona Kaye, two EXPERT  teachers taught "Stoked" and
"Sunglasses" that for lack of time  at the JG Marathon I was not able to
take as classes.
Mike Candella cooked all the food and dessert.  It was like being in a 5
star restaurant.  The presentation of the fruit and snacks BEFORE the main
meal was truly artistic!
I highly recommend this progressive venue held once a month.  You won't
be disappointed.

Subject: Inner Circle & Outer Rim, NJ & NY

From: John Korman pag...@comcast.net

Even after being away from home last week while at JG, we headed up north to NJ & NY for a weekend getaway for more dancing. During the 30 mins request, I asked Inner "Tim" Circle to play BLAH BLAH BLAH. Because most recognized the music but forgot the dance, I did a quick 3 min (re)teach for everyone (Sophia got a private lesson due to her late arrival). On the playlist, I forgot the nice dance by Paul McAdam called WISHING ON A STAR, taught by Rona Kaye at Showdown 2010. Fortunately, the star was bright enough for me to follow everyone on the floor and master it 1/2 way through. Another dance to look out for is Will Craig's LOVE SONG which had a full floor, and the song is growing on me - this has been taught at several events Will has instructed. We all knew the restart in NO SALVATION was approaching, but Sophia showed her teeth too early calling the restart 8-counts ahead of time. Fortunately, none of us needed braces! <ouch!> Surprinsgly, the dance review of the night was Paul McAdam's ANOTHER DAY. I loved this dance, so much it was my favorite of Windy City 2009, when I first learned it but it did not get picked up locally or reading elsewhere. The in-house review was great and everyone had it - kudos to Fred and Mecky! Debbie and Ruby would be proud that the OH RUBY version played allowed us to squeeze in an extra A & B phrase! Another JG request was Guyton's IMMA BE. Because we all had only bits and pieces, we're-gonna-be re-looking at the stepsheet! Thanks all for a great Friday night.

Saturday a gang full of dancers piled into "ole blue" and headed for Long Island City, NY for a day of dancing with the Outer Rim. Slowly but surely the dancers piled in as classic songs and dances were playing, for some, like us, in preparation for JJ Jam Classic. Spinning POT OF GOLD, ANOTHER QUICKIE, RAZOR SHARP, HIDEAWAY CHA, and CRABBUCKIT (remember to syncopate weave to the *right*), were fun to bring back. For those like me, this is what I have to brush up on over the next two weeks! Who else is joining me at this time machine event? Once the dancers started spilling in, we moved forward some years dancing GIVE IT BACK, IMAGINATION, KEEP IT REAL (it was quite fake), and PUCKER UP (our lips needed chap stick). Advancing to today, the request hour included IMMA (bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz), TROUBLE IS, AMERICAN COWBOY, STROBE LIGHTS, STUPID IN LOVE, LATIN CRAZY, HANDS UP. Lessons included my favorite dance JG called STOKED, 2010's new SHADES dance called SUNGLASSES, and cha-cha'ing around a loving heart called CORAZON CHA. All were played and reviewed throughout the night, and well received by all. Still going strong are FAITH AND DESIRE, NO SALVATION, HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY?, IF I COULD CHANGE, SENTIMENTAL, BEAUTIFUL, BASHA, NY CHA, QUARTER AFTER ONE, MOONLIGHT MADNESS, SWING-N-CHA. Dinner and desert were exceptional by Chef Mike and assistant Nick. To compensate for the environment and weather, the all-ngiht fruit salad bar was perfect.

Now traveling south on NJ Turnpike to return to DC!

SUBJECT:  CARIBBEAN CRUISE JANUARY 2011

Have you ever dreamt of sailing across the sun soaked seas of the Caribbean, have you ever thought about dancing under a starlit sky, ever thought about having the best ever holiday of a lifetime and not only that enjoying your ‘passion’ at the same time well we, Alison & Peter, can offer you all of this and more.

We are setting sail for our 4th Line Dance Cruise to the sun soaked seas of the Caribbean in January 2011, our ship the Norwegian Sun departs from Port Canaveral on the 8th calling at Cozumel, Mexico; Santo Tomas de Castilla, Guatamala; Belize City, Belize and Key West, Florida.

We not only have the excellence of all this cruise ship and these exotic islands can offer we also have the benefit of dedicated dance rooms for both our evening dances and workshops, I say workshops but everything on our cruises is relaxing and stress free and themed for us all to have ‘Fun in the Sun’.

If you like to cruise, if it is your first ever thought to cruise and if your ‘passion’ is to dance then you might like to consider joining us for our 4th Line Dance cruise on board the Norwegian Sun.  This is an informal cruise so that you can just concentrate on doing ‘your’ thing and making the most of what is a great way to holiday and make new friends. I took my first ever cruise 3 years ago and fell in love with being on board these luxurious cruise ships, they certainly know how to take care of all their guests, you feel like royalty, with that and the added benefit on many hours of line dancing ‘pure heaven’.

For all the information about our cruise and all the other events we are hosting during 2010/2011 please visit our web site www.thedancefactoryuk.co.uk where you can download all the flyers and registration forms or you can call email or call direct and I will be more than happy to help!

Happy dancing and look forward to hearing from you.

SUBJECT: WHAT I DID IN HOLLAND

FROM: Yvonne B. /  Bee.I...@aol.nl

Hi everybody,

With the World championship coming up the soccer-madness is colouring our streets. People decorate their houses with all kind of orange-colour stuff. You can even win prices or get newspaper-attention for the most extreme decorated street!

Also learned two dances on “Africa-vibe” songs. Esmeralda vd Pol wrote a great dance to Waka Waka by Shakira and Ria Vos came up with a little fundance to music by Dr. Victor. Still don’t understand all the words he sings but what I hear makes me smile J.

Greatest linedance news for me was that Maggie Gallagher is coming to Holland. Thank you Jo for organising workshop & party on September 18th . I’m really looking forward to it.

New dances:

QUITTER by Maggie Gallagher to music Quitter by Carrie Underwood. 64cts/4W/Beg.

MAMBOSA by Ria Vos to music We Se Kind Is Jy by Dr. Victor. 32cts/4W/Beg.Int. dance As I wrote a little easy dance to great happy-feeling music.

WAKA WAKA 2010 by Esmeralda v.d. Pol to music Waka Waka by Shakira. A phrased dance 32 & 16 cts./2W/Imp. I just love the arm-moves in it. Dance is getting a lot of international attention. You can see for yourself by watching the video on her site: www.sundancers.nl

JUST WALK AWAY by Robbie McGowan Hickie to music Walking Away by Sibel, 64cts/4W/Int.

TIME TO PLAY by Peter & Alison to music Hit The Floor by Big Ali Ft. Dollarman, 48cts/4W/easy Int.

FAITH & DESIRE by Johanna Branes to music Come On Get Higher by Matt Nathanson.

32 cts./4W/Int. Just love the music but I’m not really a “bodyroll” type, just try to make the best out of it LOL.

KNEE DEEP by Adrian Churm to music Wade In The Water by Eva Cassidy. 64 cts./4W/Int. Music is not my first choice but the dance flows really well on it.

LATIN CRAZY by Dee Musk (and Fred, Craig and Vivienne) to music I’m Crazy by DJ Bobo. 64cts./4W/Int. Great dance with lots of Latin moves/steps. I try not to sing along with the chorus. J

WHAT THEY SAY by Roy Verdonk & Wil Bos to a smooth country track That’s What They Say About The Buffalo. 32 cts./4W/Beg.Int.

Recaps and dances:

Invisible Girl, Quarter After One, Umbrella Swing, Sugar Candy, Something Good, Gave It All Away, Tennessee Waltz Surprise, Feel Right, Wild, Rhyme Or Reason, Broken Heels, You’re My Sunshine, B.C.O., I Need You Now, Martini Moments, Love Ya, Under The Sun, Dream Of You, Hands Up, Fool In Me, Mexicali, Murder My Heart…

FROM:  JANIS GRAVES

What a fun time we had at the Dancers Night Out on Saturday night at The Barn in Sanford.  Several area instructors, Ferrel Mazzatto, Sandy Albano, Diane Petosky, Lindy Bowers, Sarah Harris, Lynn Luccisano, and Cherie Johnson, brought their beginner dancers to dance the night away to Covered in Kisses, Hippy Dippy Mambo, Ride 'Em Cowboy, French Girl Shuffle, Chica Boom Boom, Country As Can Be, Good Times, Mamma Maria, Electric Slide, and many more.  I taught Where I Belong (Maggie Gallagher), Alright Girl (Frank Trace) and Redneck Rock & Roll (Lindy Bowers & Karen Richie).  The dance floor was full, the noise level was loud, and there were lots of smiling faces letting me know that a good time was had by all.  The next Dancers Night Out will be in September.
