NOTE FROM ME:  I went to Sandy's class at the Waterin' Trough (Pinellas Park, Fl)  last night.  She taught SHOUT IT TO THE WORLD and X CUSE ME, Kate Sala -- one of my all-time favorite dances.  She reviewed some others they have been doing.  We danced BACKSTREET ATTITUDE, DIRTY POP (Keith Williams), WALKIN' ON ME, CALIENTE, HAVE FUN GO MAD, MMM BOP, Kelly Kalin, CITY LIMITS and a bunch of those classic dances I was telling you about.  There's a girl in her class who choreographed the CUTEST dance.  I asked her to write it up and when she does I'll ask Stacy to post it.  Very good, easy dance.  Thanks, Sandy, for a good workout!!

SUBJECT: BURNING BY CATO LARSEN
FROM: LOU ANN SCHEMMEL IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
OK, everyone was right! Thanks Carol and Eugenia for prodding me along that path.........this is a really, really great nightclub from Cato Larsen.......can't recommend it highly enough. It looks good seeing it on YouTube, but I am here to tell you that dancing it is twice as good. It's lovely and the music is wonderful. It is a bit tricky after the hitch as you tend to lose your wall, but after a couple of times through that clears up. It's a 10 - OK, now everyone needs to teach it before Raleigh so we can dance it together! Please, go check out Carol's link to this dance and see what I mean. Hope to see a lot of people dancing it with us in Raleigh - I know Florida has some dancers who know it, so that will be great!
NOTE FROM ME:  Maybe I'll finally get to do it!!!

SUBJECT:  DISCUSSION ON CLASSIC DANCES
FROM:  NANCY MCDAVID
nvmcda...@earthlink.net
Hi Carol. You kind of touched on something in the newsletter about getting to dance the line dances you love at events, and that you felt like new dances are taught just to have a new dance to teach. I couldn't agree with you more. In fact, I wonder why event directors can't have a teach every hour during the daily workshops of a popular dance that everyone loves but you just happened to have missed learning it. I see people sitting and not dancing and I suspect a lot of that is because they never learned the dance. Sometimes the music for these dances is played over and over because the dances are so popular, and yet it wasn't even taught at that weekend workshop and why? because it's not new??? Silly reason. We'd all like to be a member of the group and get up and dance it, if we only knew it. I can remember being a some workshops years ago and if there was a "hot" dance, an instructor would get out there and teach it, even in the main ballroom at the evening dance, so everyone could enjoy it. It probably only takes 15 minutes to do that to get everyone pretty well tuned in on the dance. Then you could go to these events and catch up on what you've missed and feel like you came away with something you know you'll continue dancing with your friends. That's it from my soapbox. Happy Dancing! Nancy

SUBJECT: BIBLE AND BELT
FROM: KATHY HELLER
I taught my new dance "Bible And Belt" last night to my beginner class. They had a harder
time than I thought they would. The music is slow enough with a strong beat, but guess there were too many turns. However, we did it one last time before ending the class, and they had it down pretty well. They enjoyed it, liked the music, and want to keep working on it. They were having trouble knowing which wall to end up with the paddle turns. When I explained that whatever wall their back was facing when they start the paddles, that was the wall they would end up on, it started to click. Just wanted to give a "heads-up" to anyone who was thinking about teaching it to their beginners - definitely an "improver" dance.
Also brought back "Gettin U In Trouble" by Anita McNab - music: Trouble by Mark Chesnutt. This was new for this class. Very easy and they had no trouble with it. Nice west coast beat.

SUBJECT: Line Dance Workshop in Minneapolis area
FROM: John Robinson,
mrsho...@aol.com
This weekend is my first ever one-day workshop in the Minneapolis area. Coordinated by Dodee Davis (with help from other locals I'm sure), the event will be held Saturday, May 12 from 10am to 5pm at Highcroft School, 301 Peavey Lane, Wayzata, Minnesota (the school gym has a floor designed for high-impact activities, so dance sneakers and leather soles will both work well!). Also teaching throughout the day will be Sally Clark, Pollie Evans and Jodi Wittman. Of course there will be open dancing both Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm til midnight. J-Mart will also be open for business. For more details, check the website: www.lndancer.info or contact Dodee via email: LnDa...@aol.com or 612-799-7393.

SUBJECT: What I'll be teaching at jg2 Line Dance Marathon
FROM: John Robinson,
mrsho...@aol.com
OK, it's that time of year again - when everyone is getting "prepared" for the jg2 Line Dance Marathon in Raleigh, North Carolina (May 31-Jun 3). I'm already getting email messages asking me what I'll be teaching, so here's the list: __________. Sorry, can't tell ya, because all of the dances I will be teaching are brand new and have never been taught anywhere. In fact, I just choreographed some of them last week. Remember to come check out my vendor area (now officially named J-Mart) at the event, where you will be able to purchase music for most of the dances being taught PLUS my latest t-shirt design: "Thou shalt not whine on the dance floor." See you there!
Keep on dancin' and keep it fun,

SUBJECT:  DANCES THIS WEEK
FROM:  BIG DAVE
Hi all,
Must say I've had a great week this week, enthused by a fun time up in Stirling last weekend with Robbie, Kate & Oli - A great friendly & welcoming crowd up there - Thank you all so much for a fun weekend.
It's always a bonus being a DJ & seeing what's new & hot in different areas & at the weekend a dance I did see in particular this time was an easy beginner dance called Alfie (Cato Larsen) - Now when I saw this dance a while back in the Linedancer Mag I did not think much - It just looked 'ordinary' - And when I played myself the track I thought "no way" !! ..... But when I saw a group up dancing it - Smiling away & having great fun, it really did make me sit up & take notice - I've done it with both my beginner classes this week now & I just love it - And so did they - I get the same 'easy dances can be great dances' feel that I did when I first did Rio ------ Taught it first with straight vines - Then added the rolling vines on the 2nd dance of it .......... On Tuesday night my main class joined in when we did it again at the end of the Beginner class & they just loved it too - My dance of the week for sure !! :-) ...........................Alfie is one of the new dances being taught at our Alamo Improver/Easy-Intermediate Skegness event this weekend by the way - This is now sold out - Thanks for your support if you are going - Have a great weekend with Dee & Kim.
Again from Stirling, the hit of the weekend was Robbie's Not Like That I would say (Also on the Skegness teach list) - This one quite easy too - Easy Intermediate level - And a really beaty/catchy track that just tempts you up to dance - Taught this one to the Tuesday class & they loved it - Another great dance from Robbie & my dance of the week for sure - Whoops I've already said that though !!!! :-) ............ It was an easy teach this one so later in the night I also did Kate's waltz Time 2 Fly which is also quite easy & just an awesome track - The Wednesday Newline class really enjoy this one as did the crowd when Kate taught it at the Masters in Prestatyn - It was at Stirling too that the penny dropped that is was really also a likely smash hit mainline dance which my Tuesday class would like - And sure enough they did (Just a touch harder than Heart of an Angel maybe) - Other dances going well on Tuesday are My Heart, A Gigolo, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Sky High, Candi Cha, Part-Time Lover, Grace Kelly and A Cowboy & A Dancer - Next week it's MaggieG's NIMBY - Great country.
On Wednesday - Well a few weeks back I did Totally Nightclub after Prestatyn which is a big hit nightclub - But it meant I had to leave another one a few weeks that I've been waiting to do called You're My Inspiration from the co-writer of With These Eyes Niels Poulsen - The track by Chicago is just awesome & the dance is every bit as good as Rob's Totally Nightclub - Really well received by the class as I'd hoped for - My dance of the week for sure - That makes 3 I know !! :-) .....................I also taught Paul's Walking On The Sun, a fast 8&1 cha cha, another Prestatyn release - The track is somewhat different to the norm - Just like Sailaway Cha in a way - And the dance, quite easy really with some cool hip turns - The class enjoyed this one too - Not as good as Stand By Me Cha but nice to do something refreshingly different.
Last Wednesday Shaz did a road test practice teach of her new one Bailando Suave (Smooth Dancers I think she said this means !!) for Canada - I need to teach them myself to get them in my own head (I'm a lazy student on the dance floor !!) so I taught this one on Wednesday too, but used Shaz to demo the funky & hip styling !! (Actually Shaz took Paul's class in Canada & also demo'd the funky hip turn in Walking On The Sun for me which is handy because I'm useless at it !! :-) ...............Bailando is a lovely dance & it's not that hard when you get down to it - It's all in the styling - A classic Shaz dance in fact - OK so I'm biased - Check it out yourself .............. Shaz's Ice is a big class favourite too, a hit back at our Wolverhampton Newline weekend where dances from Nev/Julie, Niels & Bo are still all doing well with the Midlands UK Newline crowd.
Our main recap on Wednesday was one that Rachael did in Canada last weekend & another Prestatyn release hit - Tell Me Bout It (Joss Stone) - Cool fast funky west coast, although a few don't like the track for this one .......... It's a great dance though - A sort of Rachael does Guyton sort of thing - Cool stuff if you like the track - The other big hit just now is Soul Energy - Great dance - Not too hard & another great west coast track - I taught this one up in Stirling last weekend & it was really well received - Planning to do it as the warm-up teach at our Sunday-Out Newline workshop this Sunday at Burton - Hope to see you there - Great new dances from M.T.Groove & Criag Bennett our guest choreographers - Others too .............. A quick recap of Guyton's Bring It On Down too !! :-) amongst others. Others going well on a Wednesday include High Road, Ice, How Kud U, Time 2 Fly & Totally Nightclub - Next week it will be dances from Sunday-Out.
Have a great weekend.

NOTE FROM ME:  Cato Larsen is also the one who did BURNING.  He's another choreographer that I look at the dances when they come out.   Here's the link on our site for Alfie.  It is easy enough for beginner beginners to do.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxRGFGuHxVg
