SUB:  2010 Circle City Dance Classic, Indianapolis, IN
FROM:  Jamie Marshall

Special thanks for Mark Bradburn & Melissa Culbertson for continue to promote line dancing at their UCWDC event, the Circle City Dance Classic held at the wonderful Marriott East in Indianapolis this past weekend.  Mark & Melissa went above and beyond in allowing us line dancers to have a great time.  I believe they are the first to offer a weekend pass, dedicated strictly to the line dancers for only $49.99, which included all the line dance workshops, nightly dance and a little show on Saturday night (including jello shots).  We had a great floor with Pam & Eagle Lindsey doing a terrific job as our DJ.  The crowd was small, but the fun was HUGE.  Congrats to Guyton for beating John Robinson and Will Craig in the "Unwind" the crape paper game. Now we know why he uses his arms and hands so much in dances.  Guests also played the game of pulling out tissues, one at a time, to see was the fastest!  Congrats to Carl Johnson...then Carl got to...well, you just had to be there!  Bev Carpenter supervised the coolest game with chairs in a circle, where instructors & guests sat sideways with their tails on the chair and their knees to one side.  Then they had to lean back, placing their heads on their neighbors' knees.  (It kinda looked like monkey bread if you know what I mean! Ha)...Then, one-by-one, Bev pulled the chairs out from under their tails...it was so funny...where's the trust everyone?  When Bev got to the last chair (John Robinson...and we all know John) John had trouble raising his butt up to pull the chair out...now when can you ever remember John having trouble moving his butt??? I tried to help him!  He finally raised it far enough to remove the chair and there you have it....a circle made of people leaning on one another...VERY COOL!  (Of course, John then fell and made everyone else fall...it as sooo much fun).  Another great surprise was seeing John, Will, Guyton & Chris doing "Cheeseburger"...holding hands and all.  To add to the fun, most of you probably know Bob Boyle (he's about 7 feet tall)...dancing with him is pretty funny and quite a challenge too!  Our friend and instructor, Garth Bock (NTA IL State director) was also on hand taking lots of pictures & videos and did a great job teaching a couple of really great dances.  Everyone laughed so hard as Bev and her accent was teaching us how to say "Abidi-hi-bidi Hop Hop".  (Hey everyone, let's do it in a box formation...again you had to be there!)  Everyone on the Line Dance Staff was great and it was my pleasure to work with each of them:  Guyton, Will Craig (this is the first time I actually got to hang (a little) with Will...what a nice guy (and great dancer), John Robinson, Bev Carpenter, Garth Bock, Bob & Denise Boyle (Bob does a great job instructing and will also say something to make you laugh), Pam & Eagle Lindsey (Pam and her fly swatters!).  (I taught Ruben and my new choreography, "Rock Steady" this weekend...I personally love the dance and think you will too!).  I appreciate the opportunity of briefly discussing the benefits of NTA and offering little tidbits about different dance steps as I taught!  Special thanks to everyone who worked hard to have a little performance for Saturday's show.  Guyton & Will's routine was great, Mark & Melissa (both routines), Vicky Lee (formerly Johnson), Darin Paden (from PA - he' fabulous), and a special THANK YOU to Bev & Garth, Bob & Denise and Pam & Eagle, for putting up with me in getting a group number together!  YOU GUYS WERE GREAT!  We hope that this gives you an idea of the fun, in addition to the great dance workshops, that were offered! (The schedule for this past weekend's workshops are posted on the website.)  Check out www.circlecitydance.com for the dates in 2011.  Mark & Melissa are committed to building the line dance portion of their event and we hope we can count on you in 2011!  Personal thanks to Mark & Melissa from me!

If you are interested in a video of Zenyatta's Waltz, please view the one at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rwoSjP60Oc.  The preferred piece of music is Fire Escape by Diane Birch.  There is another video of Zenyatta's Waltz on youtube being demoed to the song Doors Of Life :-).  I'm sure it's out of absolute innocence, but it sure could cause some confusion. :

SUBJECT:  THANK YOU!!
I want to thank everyone for their suggestions on getting the music for Under the Sun and Tennessee Surprise.

I have the music now and thanks to everyone for the help and the music.  The dance community have such wonderful and helpful people. Sometime I feel a little out of the loop here in Michigan compared to the chatter in the newsletter from everywhere else, but the newsletter and the dancing community make it a lot easier to stay in touch.

I want to thank Carol for the newsletter, you do a great job.

SUBJECT:  Improver Split for Oli & Hungren’s “You And I”

Hi Guys,

If your improvers are anything like ours they want to be on the floor as much as possible during socials.

So when we play the track for “You And I” they do a dance that we’ve called “Nothing On The Line”

Maureen, Mrs. GRR! came up with this one.

For the slow beginning of the dance use Niels Poulsen’s “Nothing Left” – this is a beginner split for Maggie G’s “Gave It All Away” by Boyzone.

For the small tag do two slow step quarter pivots turning left (this will bring you back to the 12o’clock wall)

Finish the dance with “Walking The Line”

You’ve just kept everyone dancing, so they’re all happy.

NOTE FROM ME:  I have had a number of people tell me about this dance.  Here's the video to check out:

Gordon Timms has taken time to write up my script for the partner steps for Edelweiss. He is such a STAR! :)

I am absolutely delighted with this little waltz :) I won the gold trophy at Mayworth for chorography (beginner dance) for the dance and to now have it written up as a partner option is just wonderful. I have also attached some videos and would like to thank the dancers for taking the time to pop these up online,

If you would like the music then please let me know and I can help you :)

Good luck and if anyone dances the partner one and pops it online I would love to see it as this is my 1st dance which has ever been translated to partners :)
