Dear all,

This is a problem i have been grappling with after having a look at both the World development indicators api and the climate change knowledge api. We are looking to pull data in geographical form. So kml or geojson would be ideal. Has anyone been able to pull data from the world development indicators and match it with associated geometrical attributes?
Having also looked at the Climate change knowledge portal, one is able to get KML datasets out, but i need the kml not only to load the geometry of the country or basin but also the attributes related with a particluar dataset. For instance, i want to get temperature for mozambique over a specific period of time and have it on a map, getting the following KML, which lacks  the attributes i need.
Another example is say
In the above case when pulling the data ,I would like to pull in the geometrical data associated with it. The only way i think of going about this would be to pull both datasets, then have to do a mix of the two. Thoughts? On this same note, calling datasets from the world development indicatiors not geometrical information comes bundled with the data. Thoughts on solving this? How have you been able to handle spatial data especially if its data you want to expose on a map.

to World Bank API
Hi Jude,

At this time the KML endpoints in the Climate Data API do not support
embedding data within the KML output. The approach you suggest--one
request for the KML definition and another to get the data you need--
would work fine. How you integrate the two depends on the goals of
your app and whatever mapping package you are using. Note that the
boundaries are for reference only, they do not imply any judgement or
endorsement by the World Bank about the legal status of particular
territories or boundaries.

I'm not sure I entirely understand your second question, but I think
you're asking how it's possible to obtain geographic boundaries for
WDI data. The data site doesn't provide that, but there's no reason
you couldn't use the climate data API for this purpose, in the manner
just described, since the ISO3 country code are the same for both. I'm
sure there are plenty of kml resources, shapefiles or layers that
would provide the equivalent information, again depending on your
application and the tools you are using. A few examples I found (and
I'm not necessarily endorsing any of these): http://mappinghacks.com/data,
http://www.gelib.com/world-borders.htm, http://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloads.

Hope this helps,
Tim
