Hi,

Does anyone know how to enable the 'Make/add to index' button in WS6?
In WS5, I can enable the function by switching to 'Advanced' level in
the 'Adjust settings' pull-down menu. I can't find where I can switch
to 'Advanced' level in WS6. Can anyone help?

Cheers,
Phoebe

The difference between Advanced and Basic users has gone in WS6,
Phoebe. It was causing more trouble than it saved.
You can make your Index as soon as you have chosen your texts.

I see. Thanks, Mike. I have got WS6 installed in the root directory (C:
\wordsmith6) now. So WS6 runs well.

If it is not the 'Advanced/Basic' level, then what is it that causes
the 'Make/Add to index' button to freeze after I have selected my
texts?

Thanks,
Phoebe

It doesn't seem to happen with me, Phoebe. Does anyone else get this
problem of the Make/Add to index button seemingly be frozen even after
texts are selected and a suitable folder & file-name chosen?

Dear Mike,
Actually, I have the same problem in WS 5.

Kind regards,
Umut

Do you have Basic or Advanced settings enabled, Umut?

I have installed WS 5 on USB flash drive. Although, it works on my
laptop, it is frozen on other computers. I have enabled Advanced
Settings on both my laptop and other computers, but it doesn't work.

If I understand you right, you mean you have only one installation of
WS5 and that is on a flash-drive, and with that one in different PCs
you get different results.

The settings may not be getting stored on your flash-drive, Umut. By
default, settings always go to \My Documents\wsmith5 -- it may be that
you have different settings in different \My Documents\wsmith5 folders
on these different PCs. You can see where your settings will get saved
in the Folders tab of the main Settings.

If I have NOT understood right, then I need more information.
If you set Advanced in WS5 the Settings in the Controller show some
tabs (Index, Advanced) which are simply not visible with a Basic
setting.
Do you mean
a) Advanced is saved but not remembered next time you use WS5
b) You set Advanced in the Controller but the behaviour seems to be
still Basic in WordList, Concord etc
c) you set Advanced but still cannot see all the tabs in the
Controller
