Punctuation marks, revisited!

First, thanks for providing such a great tool.

I'm writing a technical report using some Wordles we made from Twitter data and am curious why Wordle strips out most common punctuation marks but not the @ sign?

My two hypotheses:
- @ isn't a punctuation mark
- When @ is appended to a longer string, it is not stripped out (e.g. @amarwick) in the Twitter corpus

Don't get me wrong, I am VERY happy that you don't strip out the @ sign! But I'm curious as to why.
