Subject: How to decide the distance between two words?

I noticed that some words are far apart, while some words are close to each
other. I am wondering how to decide the distance between two words in
Wordle. Is it done in a random way? Or is it done by calculating the
co-occurrence of two words? For instance, the more two words co-occurred in
sentences, the closer they are placed.

The words are ordered according to an algorithm that finds a space for
them along a spiral (I think) path, so it doesn't have anything to do
with co-occurrence, but it isn't totally random either. Whats been
