Dear Climate Protectors,
Last week a dozen members of 350 Massachusetts and Better Future Project stood in opposition to a new gas-fired power plant in Salem. We have gathered from our allies that permitting this plant is nearly a done deal. However, with our recent presence at these Department of Utilities hearings to permit the plant, the tides have begun to turn.
You can join us for the next ones, sign up here!
This is an important opportunity to stand up against new fossil fuels and call out the damaging effects of natural gas on our climate. Many of these new gas plants are planned to replace existing coal plants that communities have fought hard to shut down, however, now we know with the effects of methane leaks, natural gas is in fact comparable if not worse for the climate than coal. Increasing our dependence on natural gas will lead us nowhere but climate catastrophe.
Now is our chance to have an impact. April 17th and 18th are the last hearings at the Dept. of Utilities so we have to make this big. Our goal is send climate supporters to these hearings every hour to demonstrate the depth and breadth of opposition to this plant.
Will you join us in standing up against this plant and attend one of these hearings?
Please fill out this form to let us know when you could make either of these hearings. The hearings take place on the 5th floor at 1 South Station in Boston, right outside the main entrance to the station.
