Hey!
Green Drinks is this Wednesday, May 22nd, at 7:30pm at Nick's (124 Millbury St., Worcester). The Worcester Think Tank will be hosting to talk about alternative educational models, the trials and triumphs of an amazing woman starting an alternative school in Worcester, and the following:
STEAM is a new trend on STEM. It is the inclusion of the Arts in STEM education. Educational center Worcester Think Tank has exercised this trend by bridging community resources to create unique curriculum not typically seen in public institutions. Inclusion of scientists, professionals, artists, teachers and community leaders to develop such curriculum has led to impressive results. Think Tank hopes to increase local networks within Worcester and build on this initiative.
The Think Tank will also discuss an event in which distinguished engineer and biophysicist Hugh Herr, will speak in support of alternative educational models as well as share what fuels his own creative process. Herr, a prodigy rock climber by age 8, considered one of the best climbers in the United States by age 17, became a double-amputee shortly thereafter. He has since devoted his career to innovating prosthetics and assistive technology at MIT's Media Lab. Herr is the winner of numerous awards including Time Magazine's Top Ten Inventions twice.
Ticket prices to the event happening at a later date start at $25. Appetizers, refreshments, and live music will be provided. Original art and academic work by Think Tank students will be on display. Proceeds will go to Think Tank to enrich its programs and grow its collaborations within the community.
