(la...@math.tamu.edu) in the last two years. Just in case she was
tenured three years ago, Guergana Petrova (gpetr...@math.tamu.edu)

Please be sure to send me the names/emails/affiliations of any new
women who have recently been tenured in mathematics at doctoral
institutions. We would like to include them on the list of members
here and the list has not been updated in three years.

ICM 2010 is coming soon

In this group there were a number of serious discussions about
nominations for speakers at the ICM and other high level mathematics
awards. The ICM is coming up next summer and the deadlines for most
nominations have passed. However there is one award left with a
nomination deadline of this coming December:

not to create AMS Fellows is on the ballot. Such a program will be

George Andrews is disdainful of the mathematics education community.
Many people in the AMS have worked hard to cooperate with this
community, and feel that cooperation is essential (Hy Bass made this
a priority of his administration), but I expect that George Andrews

I would like to open up a discussion of the ongoing AMS election.
To start, let me note that one of the candidates for president
supports the AMS Fellows Program. This program is likely to be very
helpful to women in second tier departments who are top quality
mathematicians that are unrecognized by their deans as exceptional.

I have just been notified that the Executive Committee for the 2010
ICM has appointed Hendrik Lenstra to be the chair of the PC. Other
members of the PC will remain anonymous until after the ICM. Two
members of the Executive Committee, Cheryl Praeger and Ragni Piene,
have contacted me and asked that all members of the Women in Math
