Please join us for some interesting OUTDOOR MOVIES this summer. We
will be offering these "backyard screenings" at the home of Wendy
Barth, 2308 C Ave NE. 363-5345
(Please bring a yard chair and citronella candle. In the event of
rain, the movie will be cancelled.)

*August 3- We encourage you to read (or re-read) Orwell's book,
"1984", and join us for a potluck and discussion at 6 pm., followed by

the place of our annual summer picnic.)

June 22
Call for a National Day of Solidarity Hunger Strike with Czech peace
activists protesting our Missile Defense System
Thousands protested in Prague May 26, 2007. On May 13, 2008, two
Czech activists mounted a three-week hunger strike against the US
base, joined and prolonged by several others. Hunger strikes featured
potently in the nonviolent resistance of Gandhi, American
suffragettes, and 131 Guantanamo detainees in 2006. Opponents of the
Czech component of “Star Wars” call for world-wide solidarity in their
hunger strike June 22. Consider at least skipping lunch; host a
“picnic without plates,” discussing with family or neighbors or
congregation the hope of replacing the endless conflict of domination
with truly peaceful partnerships.

August 8
Hiroshima Remembrance on "Infinity Day"- 8-8-08
"Sadako and the Thousand Cranes" movie
Viewing site will be announced, due to the flooding at the Peace
Center.

We encourage you to write letters to the editor as well as to write
and call your legislators about issues which strike a chord with you.
We need to keep the peace and justice movement alive and well,
particularly in this time of uncertainty. Keep the pressure on!

We also want to convey our heartfelt sympathies to our fellow Iowans
whose lives were forever changed by the floodwaters. While homes and
buildings may have been washed away, the indomitable spirit of
neighbor helping neighbor has never been stronger. Volunteer
opportunities abound in our city. Now is a time to truly make a
difference.
We wish you all peace.
