Hi Andrew and group,

Is there a chance to include a Simple 2 window terminal in a future version of WOAD so that we can also work PACKET RADIO with it?

I use mine with a Kenwood TH-D74 via Bluetooth and I am very happy with it!

Hello,
Name here is Steve  KB7TIU. I am a digital trainer in Rexburg, Idaho area. My question is , Is there a plan to have this great software do full blown packet with a mailbox and all. We still use packet radio around here. I was able to get it to connect and left a message but it would be nice if it had a command line like ( c kb7itu) or ( s kb7itu) . I am a racketeer from way back . Thank you for your time.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Could you provide some details on what you're after here. I don't use the terminal functionality of WoAD (or indeed any terminal software) so don't really have an understanding of what a terminal user might be after. I'm assuming you're looking for more than simply allowing the user to enter the destination address through the terminal rather than configuring it through WoAD's user interface.

Perhaps a link to terminal software you use on another platform.

All the best,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for getting back to me. So back in the day we used to run a tnc (terminal node controller). I still run one of these for packet and for aprs. It is a kpc-3 plus. They are still selling them. There is also a sound card packet system called uz7ho sound modem. This sound card software is run in conjunction with Easy terminal. Together they have all the packet radio for connecting to another station , a command to send a message, a command to end the message (/ex) you can connect from one node to another by command ect. It was called and is called Packet Radio . It runs AX25 Protocol.  I may be asking to much with bluetooth but it would be a great system if it could be done. Anyway something to make your scratch your head a little hi hi. Have a great day and thanks again.

So I forgot to tell you maybe the main part hi hi. This packet that I am talking about will allow you to do keyboard to keyboard chat.

Steve, I'm in the same boat. This app works for connecting to a known node, but you have to set up the connection first.

Andrew, you might also look at QtTermTCP, which runs on a variety of systems. I think there would still need to be a profile set up to handle the TNC settings, but it would be set up to just pass frames (like it does once the connection is established).

Key to what I would be looking for are (I am using a Mobilinkd, so that's what I am thinking of as the TNC):
- a simple text interface to send commands without a connection, so rather than WoAD sending e.g. "c w1cdn-7" to connect with a node, I would type it myself
- a monitor interface to show received packets coming from the TNC, even without a connection

Thanks for the hard work,
Matt

If you use the WA8DED protocol in a Terminal session would this be like running putty through a TNC? Since WoAD does AX.25 if instead of a hardware TNC could you use a  Digirig Lite with the build in WA8DED protocol as a terminal program (putty)?
