We observe with great concern that in the name of industrialisation, at the behest of MNC Tata group government of West Bengal has created a reign of terror in different villages of Singur to acquire multi-cropping fertile agricultural land to be given to Tata at a nominal price for construction of a car manufacturing unit there.

Being instructed by the state government, through out the week, large contingent of armed police force camped in Singur and have ocassioally attacked the villagers. Today the police brutality has crossed all limits. Police forces have mercilessly beaten up poor villagers, women and children today entering into their houses in Singur. In some cases police have set the huts of villagers on fire

and have destroyed whatever little property they had. As a result of the police attacks several peasant men, women and children have severely been injured. The sole purpose of this ruthless police brutality is to create a reign of terror in Singur and to drive out the poor peasants from their homes and hearths, who have raised their voice of protest against the destructive development policies of

the state government.

We the representative of the Civil Society unequivocally condemn the barbaric attack of the police on the peaceful villagers in Singur at the instigation of MNC Tata and call upon all the patriotic and democratic people of the state to come forward to register their protest against the state sponsored terrorism and to develop a strong civil society movement demanding the removal of this antipeople government.
