[ABC announcement]

ABC News has announced George Stephanopoulos and JuJu Chang will be
joining Good Morning America starting on Monday.

Stephanopoulos will anchor the broadcast with Robin Roberts. Juju Chang
has been named the news anchor for GMA. Sam Champion will remain the
weather anchor on the morning show.

"Robin and George are the right pair to lead our effort. As we've seen
over time, Robin brings a warmth and intelligence to the morning that no
one can match. Hers is a practical curiosity that brings the viewers'
questions to the fore. George complements Robin's strengths with a deep
knowledge of and commitment to news about the nation and the world. George
is a formidable interviewer who brings the viewer a deeper understanding
of the great issues of the day through his conversations with experts and
newsmakers," said ABC News President David Westin in a statement.

"Sam Champion brings his knowledge and enthusiasm to weather, climate, and
the environment. Juju, our new news anchor, has distinguished herself
covering the news of every sort - from national and world events to the
everyday experiences of parents and families," he added.

Stephanopoulos, 48, has been ABC News' chief Washington correspondent
since December 2005 and host of ABC's Sunday morning political affairs
program, "This Week With George Stephanopoulos," since September 2002. He
will take on the role of chief political correspondent and continue to
anchor "This Week" until a replacement is named, Westin said.

Chris Cuomo will be promoted to co-anchor of 20/20 with Elizabeth Vargas
and serve as ABC News' Chief Law and Justice Correspondent.

Diane Sawyer, whose last day on GMA is Friday, will be taking over as
anchor of World News on December 21, succeeding Charlie Gibson.

"One cannot describe all that she has done for GMA; nor can we fully
express our gratitude. The best way to honor what Diane has done - and
what Charlie did before and with her - is to continue the great tradition
while building on the foundation they have laid. This new team will do
just that," Westin said.

Other than World News Now, which I've been hooked on since the mid-'90s, I've watched NBC since I was old enough to get my Dad to switch away from KDKA in Pittsburgh after the lottery drawing.

I gotta say... this has a real chance of changing my network viewing habits.  As it is, I've been watching GMA more (a) because my wife watched it growing up and she tends to turn it on instead of Today and (b) WJLA, the ABC affiliate in DC, appears to have the best local product.

The idea that they'll go a little more hard-news is extremely appealing, because there's no show on like that in the morning right now -- Today is lighter than ever and Morning Joe is just nonstop political bickering.  And I don't have the attention span, now that we've got a puppy (!), to stay with BBC News or Al Jazeera English, which require that little bit of extra concentration due to the accents and the differences in production style.

ABC could really seal the deal by giving This Week to Jake Tapper.  Terry Moran is Regrettably Just Another Anchor.  Tapper has really done well over the past year in holding figures from both sides accountable for what they've said in the past and in fleshing out what they're saying now.  He is more of the Russert tradition than David Gregory... and he "gets" new media more than Gregory does, too.  So -- ABC -- are you listening?  Lifetime NBC devotee, 32 years old, male, college degree, apparently enough disposable income for puppy chow now... willing to consider wholesale buying what you're selling.  So, don't let me down.

Well, they can't all be gems.

Not precisely PC, either.
